We all know, or should know that women wear their skirts about 3" above the navel on the lower part of their midriff so that the skirt falls over the great reversed pear shape of their hips. When worn properly I find my skirts feel and fall better and tend to hold in the slight guy bulge of my stomach when the belt is at the lower midriff, this also ensures greater comfort because there is more freedom when moving our legs, or sitting. That's it.
I say this because cross dressers starting out tend to wear a skirt at the same level as a gunslinger's belt on gunsmoke which is just not done.
I crossed a major milepost on my way to my ideal weight of 178 this morning when to my surprise I was 189.5 pounds I am 5'9.5" with a medium frame, I have lost 30 pounds since October 1st. It is amazing how good a dress looks when you haven't worn it in a while and find you need to retie the waist sash and see a figure to your amazement. There is an upper torso that looks feminine too with the bra and the wide open V neck and collar of this denim shirt dress and how wonderful to do a simple and neat woman's hairstyle by parting it down the middle and sweeping it back on both sides. I have straight hair but it does have body and is amazingly attractive after skipping the barber for just a few months. I am having such a good time this morning! I'm loving it but alas the spell will be broken soon as I change to go work on my sports car and I do not push my feminine self out there in front of my older son who knows and thinks it's fine - perhaps but I still prefer to present as dad.

Anne B, 3" above the navel is a belt. I'll include my own part time woman hubby as one that wore too short skirts at first.Anne Bonny wrote:We all know, or should know that women wear their skirts about 3" above the navel.
The excitement of going out public over rode the common sense of blending in. Above or below the knee depends on the age of who's wearing it.

Re: Tip for proper skirt wear
I saw someplace (if I can find it again I'll post a link) that says the narrowest part of a women's waist is 2+ inches above the narrowest part of a man's waist. Put another way, on a male the skinniest part is just above the hip bones, on a female it is just below the rib cage.
It makes sense that a skirt is designed so that the waistband would fit around the narrowest part of the waist. This pretty much accounts for the 3 inches you talk about.
So, Eileen, is your use of the term belt literally meaning the apparel piece, or is it a technical term for what I am calling the waist band, or is it what I have called the narrowest part of the waist?
Kel.

Gawd, I'm such a twit! I thought Anne was talking about the hem line, not the waist band. (Have another glass of wine, Eileen.)
Yes, of course women have the skinny area a bit higher than men, assuming there is a skinny area, above the navel. That's where our hip bones end, up higher than a man. Men have a longer torso, so, many dress styles don't hang properly. Skirts and tops do well for a CD. A longer top disguises the long torso and where the skirt waist band is worn at.
Wear your skirt waist band where it feels best for you and won't slip down.

yeah...well tha's wot I thot. So I had it right then the whole skirt dress top thing? Yeah, actually I find that size 14 equates to a men's size 34, and a 16 to a size 36.... If the waist is right and there is a little extra room sometimes it's ok. I agree skirts and tops with sleeves help. but nothing like a dress sometimes.
Oh, and thanks Donna today I hit 188.5 it takes patience and time but I will get there. My sister told me that to maintain your weight allow yourself 3 pounds and when you get there cut back until you are at your weight that way you don't have much to lose. I have lost weight like this 3-4 times so I will try maintenance to see if it can become a new habit. Hope so because this is a lot of dedication and takes two and a half months.
