Rummage Sale Memories

Twice a year, spring and late summer, my church has a rummage sale. The proceeds are obviously for the church and the unsold merchandise is donated to worthy causes the church council decides on. I think of it as good time to go through my closet and make room for more shopping! I volunteer to work the sale as it is fun, a worthy cause , and the volunteers get first crack at the merchandise. You would be surprised at the bargains I have found.

As we were setting up last night and this morning I saw the stuff the members had donated and a lot of the clothes brought back memories of bygone eras as well as actual incidents in my life. :) I didn't buy any of them, well I did buy a cute red and black print sweater for $2. :) As I thought about the items I know many of us have gotten rid of items we wished we had saved but I wonder if any of us have saved items because of their sentimental value or fond memories. :-k

I have this one leather skirted suit I bought back in probably the late 80's. I still have it and could never bring myself to get rid of although I doubt I would ever wear it again if it still even fits. It is hot pink, both skirt and jacket, and quite short. Every time I see it in the closet I remember all the fun times and adventures I had while wearing it, some good and some not so good. :) :( Any other stories like this out there?

I visited a lawn sale now and then. Always intersting to come across a wig then try to figure out how to ask about it when you are drab. Would see some dresses now and then and wonder it it was worth a try to know if they fit or not. Never actually asked to try anything on though. (hummm no chicken emoticon)....

When I cull the herd, I check with friends first then I donate. To think a woman wants my things :) but then I want hers -- it just makes good sense. I have kept a few things over the years, but mostly for the hope of fitting them again. Now it's just cause I am not ready to part with them. Fond memories? Yeah -- thought I looked good, was skinny and was getting brave back then.

Hey! Just where do you donate a latex skirt? :) Heck, so it raises eyebrows, but you know someone will want it... Maybe give it to a silent auction so it gets more money.

We also have church in the near area who holds a huge yard sale twice a year, last fall we went late in the afternoon on the last day until spring.

All cloths were reduced 50% of tag price Carol got 3 women 2 piece suit for $2.50 each \:D/ all were in my size and in real good shape.

Only problem is they are a fall or winter suit not for summer wear but that's OK winter comes around here every year rotf

Having to get rid of some things is very hard for me as they are sharp and good looking but with my weight lost they fall off me now. Down for a 16 to a 12 and holding. *-*

Oh boy does that ever hit home! :) My first husband had always wanted a Corvette but never bought one. He even had a picture of the one he wanted form 1970. Frank was good to me so as a surprise to him I bought him one for his 50th birthday. It wasn't exactly as he fantasized about it but he loved it. Because it was a milestone birthday I arranged a surprise birthday party at a friend's house. I had the Vette stored in their garage. Well I had a friend who had a friend who was in the movie costuming business. I wanted to wear something appropriate to the era when I gave him the Vette. It turns out hot pants were the rage back then so I swallowed my pride and got a hot pants outfit complete with the white go-go boots of the era and a platinum wig.

It was arranged for Frank and my friend's husband to play golf that morning and arrive home around 3. When they did and the garage door was opened there were all his friends surrounding the Vette and me sitting on the fender in my hot pants, boots, and wig. he was definitely surprised.

Well I still have that outfit and the wig. I doubt I could ever get rid of it for the memories of that day. I do have to laugh and wonder when I should pass away and someone is cleaning out my closet what they will think when they find it? What was an old lady doing with hot pants?
