Lots of Skirts.

We went into Cambridge for lunch today and I was people watching, as I habitually do, and I couldn't help notice that the ratio of skirts and dresses to pants and shorts was higher than I recall seeing it in many years. I read in Good Housekeeping that skirts are trending for this fall as well. I sure hope this trend continues!

Me too. I was disappointed last fall that skirts were out of style. This last summer has been marvelous in seeing the variety. Hope to see it continue into the fall. And can we hope, winter?

Yes I agree there are more skirts and dresses being worn and I love it.

Unfortunately in Oz the pants now outnumber the skirts and dresses. However that may have just been for winter and maybe more skirts will start to appear. Wearing slacks and pants is really not for me as I wear them every day when in male mode.

I've noticed that too, and I wonder if it signals a trend away from the "trying to look like I don't care how I look" attitude of the last 15 years.
But I've also had a few ladies I know tell me that now they are dressing nicer because they don't want me to be dressed nicer than they are

I'm sure they were saying it just to make me feel good, and it worked!

Pants, capri's, shorts, are easier for day to day wear. Thinking like the CD, a skirt is what women wear in public, not always. I myself feel a little bit more feminine wearing a skirt when a pair of jeans would have been the other option. Who wouldn't?
With the season changes coming, pants are just common sense. But my guy will always find a way to wear a skirt what ever the weather. Bless his little bit of fashion sense.

cold weather is why I have a drawer full of sweater tights
well crossdressing aside, I think skirts are more practical for men anyway. A woman can wear tight jeans or capris with no problem and look really good in them. But I don't think jeans look good on men, and tight anything for a guy is a really uncomfortable idea.
So I know you're going to ask how I can do tights then, but they are stretchy enough that it's not uncomfortable. Denim though is really unforgiving so I avoid jeans, except for denim skirts.
Odd, but I find that the quickest and easiest thing for day to day wear is a simple dress. One can have their entire outfit together and on in 30 seconds or less.

I suspect the frequency of skirt being worn is dependent upon the venue/activity and the location as well as the time of year. I live near a town that people come to shop the boutiques and other shops in the downtown area. During the summer I noticed a significant increase in skirt/dresses among the visitors...especially long maxi skirts and summer maxi-dresses. It was refreshing to see the uptick in the skirt population and it provided an opportunity to see what "fashion" statement was being made. Unfortunately with fall coming that trend seems to be in decline with jeans prevailing.

I too love to show my legs, actually guys have better shaped legs than most girls but I don't care for showing stocking tops unless its the wind that blows the flowing skirt up to catch a quick glimpse leave something to imagination

I've been noticing lately, when I am somewhere other than home town, that a lot more of the particularly younger women are wearing skirts. Yesterday for example I had some errans to run in the not so big nearby city and I saw a lot of women wearing skirts, the younger ones seemed to wearing leggings and tights.

Skirts like everything else in fashion tend to run in cycles. I think the pressure to abandon hose had a lot to do with women going from skirts to slacks. Let's be honest most women's legs look much better in hose than without them. The maxi skirts allows women to go sans hose yet still wear a skirt which is why you see so many of them IMHO. Personally I like maxi skirts and in the summer I wore them a lot without hose for comfort in the heat but now that fall is here I am planning on pairing them up with tights and boots.
