Hi girls,

I will be starting out next year to get a new wardrobe.

This will be over a period of time, of course.

Wanted to get some new purses.

I was thinking about a nice hand carried purse. Also an over the shoulder bag with strap.

Do you think these type would be good?

If so, what should they be like?

Also any other typ I might need.

A girl can't have too many purses.

Thanks in advance for your insight and advise. You are more experienced at this than me!

Goodwill's usually have a good selection of purses and once in a while BRAG! BRAG! BRAG! I get luck and I did find a for real "COACH" purse. I also found a PRADA with a small mark on it which I used some cleaner on it looks almost brand new. On line it says $250.00. Purses are fun and you definitely need more than 1 'er' actually more than 10 well, maybe limit it to no more than 20 (or so). Some of the places I have found great looking purses in clude "The Discovery Shop," and some consignment shops and Antique Malls.

Shop on!

Dear Martha,

The answer depends on how often you are out as female and what you plan on doing. Certain purses to match an outfit are one thing, what you need are basic, all occasion purses. Now days, so many woman carry these humongous satchels, in which can be found the actual purse, inside of that is the pocket book that has the charge card or cash needed. All that when a simple wallet would do nicely.

Just like my mother's generation, I carry a purse that is comfortable on the forearm. All the essentials needed without a back strain. My husband has reminded me that the male shoulder bone structure tends to make shoulder straps slip off. Angle of the clavicle and all that.

While men tend to have one wallet till death it departs, women carry purses as a necessity and as a fashion statement.
Look around and notice what other women carry and choose what suits you.

Very good information.

Wait until I decide to start going out ( if I ever do) and have my new wardrobe before I get into the purse buying.

I may need a couple when going to costume parties and that would suffice for the time being.

If I decide to start going out, then I can buy to go with certain outfits.

Makes sense. Saves $$$$$$.

I was passing through Nordtroms yesterday, while headed to my car, and saw a nice purse display.
One caught my eye, and I thought my wife would like it, until I looked at the price!

Oh He*l no, Donna. Expensive purses are sold for the label only. Such a waste of money!

Dear Martha,
I had thought you were already out and about. For special occasions, a dainty outfit matching purse, or basic black that goes with anything. For casual getting out, anything that looks well worn will do.
Just as a man's wallet has features, a purse should help you organize things. That depends on your own personality. I carry a teeny tiny cell phone. Some women need pockets for iphones, ipads, kindle or whatever.
So, don't spend much, look for sales, and see what types suits your needs.
