I had my very first pedicure on Christmas Eve.

The holidays can be very stressful and depressing especially for those burdoned with care giving who do not have much of a life at all. I had been talking with our sitter about pedicures...it is so great to have girl friends who are absolutely accepting and supportive!!! Anyway she had been encouraging me...I did purchase two Sensationail starter kits which comes with an LED light to put your fingers or toes in to cure gel nailpolish in 30 seconds for a hard shiny nail color that will be durable for a couple weeks. She has acrylic american tip nails that I envy, very pretty. Anyway I bought one kit to share for my wife and when she dies it will be for my use alone, and one kit for her since she had been raising the virtues of gel nail polish I thought it might be something she wanted but did not want to spend the money on for herself?? Perhaps not. Anyway It was Christmas eve and past few times I had been eyeing the nail salons...so leaving Walmart I drove straight to the nail salon and went in. It was late...
When I went In I asked how much a pedicure was the lady addressing me was assuming I was there to purchase for my wife when I told her it was for me and I wanted to have it done now she was a little surprised but directed me to a salon chair with the foot bath basin in it then got one of the girls to come over to work with me, when I stated I also wanted color and asked if that were included ... again some surprise but when she saw my toes she asked If I wanted the same color...yes. The girl then tore off some cotton wadding and removed all the old red polish from my toe nails.
It was nice learn what it is to be PAMPERED like a lady and to see just what all the raving has been all about, about how relaxing and pleasurable it is. Well they turned on the massage function but as it just about pushed me out of the chair I asked for it to be turned off...I'm fine I told them. I did have to settle my nerves a little but I am much more open than I used to be and I am secure and confident so it was not much of a problem and I began to relax and be pampered like a lady in the presence of ladies all around me. It was surprising how busy they were late on a Christmas eve.
I was curious to see how nails are properly done by a professional and it was a truly labor intensive experience which I do not believe I could come anywhere near to duplicating at home. They exfoliated and removed hardened skin from my heels and toes (with what looked like a cheese grater I do have a ped egg at home the trick is to soak your feet first in warm soapy water...hum, they also used an abrasive sponge. They filed my nails...asked If I wanted them cut...she said some prefer to wear them long, I said they were fine, so they left them long..they're not that long but suppose they are somewhat as I keep them polished. they rubbed lotions into my lower legs and feet, massaged them and had one soaking while working on one then switched pulled out tiny pliers to trim my cuticles they also had another tool. The oriental lady doing it probably vietnamese only knew a word or two of english (how do people live without being able to communicate except in their own communities??) Would have loved to talk to her as she was working on me but was able to talk to a lady in the next seat and the first lady I had spoken to who was working on that lady's feet...finally they did the base coat, the pretty shiny red coat of polish then a top coat.
I had not brought any flip flops...I was fully en homme with my deck shoes and socks and I was told I would have to wait 45 minutes to an hour before I put my shoes and socks back on...gee called our sitter who stated no problem If I ran over. But after about 45 Minutes...gee...scrolling through my smart phone...it's a long time to just sit in a chair. I had walked to the front bare foot to pay...$34, added a $5 tip...$39 total but it was worth it my feet looked better than they ever have! Another lady directed me to a seat where the manicures were done and put a desk fan on my toes...Finally they told me If I wanted it was probably ok If I wanted to put my shoes on...but after paying $40 was not about to do that but I did walk to my car and drive home bare foot by the time I got home they were fine. I showed our sitter my feet were soft and pretty a lovely hard shiny red nail on every toe that I find hard to achieve on my own, and I did not have to bend in some contortion until I was stiff and numb with one foot at a time propped up on the vanity as I stood on the other.
So I would say a Pedicure is an experience I believe I will want to repeat but at $40...not until I really need it. I think I am going to soak my feet and purchase a better file, foot file, and the tiny pliers perhaps some exfoliating and moisturizing lotion for when I do my own pedicure at home next time.
Oh and next time I will wear my flip flops or bring them for the trip to the car, unless I get gel polish...
