Make up help!

I did look for some threads on this but...

I seriously need some help with sources to buy makeup online, budget friendly of course. I'm closeted and have no female friends to help with my dilemma for shopping for makeup. After 40 years of cross dressing, I know clothes sizes really well and my ex (SO) did help me with my makeup, however I took very few mental notes.

TIA

I'm sure there are more places and probably some better ones but I have bought stuff online from Walgreen's, and Target and Sally Beauty Supply.

Hello Amanda,

As Carol said you can get your make up from Walmart. I used to use slight ruse. I would write out a shopping list of other things in the store as well as the make up I went in there for. When in the make up isle if anyone gave me a strange look I would refer to my 'list' until they moved off. If they didn't either I would move off and come back later or if it was an SA I would ask for help saying my wife gave me a shopping list can you help? a pained expression will work wonders.....Worked every time :) This trick also worked in CVS and Walgreens, in fact the Walgreens staff are the best at recommending alternatives if they don't have what's on your list.

Failing that Drugstore.com is a great place to buy make up on line. They have good brands and prices. I'm more of a budget conscious make up wearer, I'm sure the expensive brands have more staying power, better vibrant colours but I can't justify it.

Hugs,
MIchelle.

Yes, the "list" is one I've thought of already! I've also acted like I'm texting my SO while shopping at garage sales for clothes.

I am thankful for the "order online" and "pickup order" option with many vendors!!! I also walked into a Walgreen's yesterday with a list while in my boy clothes and had a wonderful lady help me find what I was looking for, unfortunately the foundation color was way too light for my skin tone. :(

Oh, Amanda, I feel for you.

Make up is one of the most vexing hills we must all climb. We don't have the advantage of being 12 on the school bus learning choice and technique along side our girl friends. For those of us that are shy, sitting down at counter in a department store for a make over is out of the question.

I have changed my outlook. After watching practically every youtube makeup video out there, I've realized I am learning slowly and still don't know what I don't know. So I have stopped ordering something I think might be it; or grabbing something off a store shelf because it is on sale to try out.

Instead, the current goal of my change jar is to engage a teacher, not a product rep, that is versed in MTF techniques, that can meet in a confidential settting. While that jar is accumulating change, I'm searching for such an extraordinary teacher.

Maybe you are way beyond my point. Good.

Kelly

A number of places have self Checkout counters these days, so shopping in-store should be less nerve wracking.

Plus, when in-store, one can find a foundation closure to their own skin tone.
