ARGH ! Ingroans

Hi folks,
If at all possible I prefer to pluck, tweak etc rather than shave. I'm talking about chest and legs.
The problem is that I get severe ingrowing hairs, to the point that it will take a couple of months to get back to normal, in which time I can't even shave.
This has caused me no small stress. Does anyone know of any way to avoid this, or treat it, other than change my method of hair removal ?
Any input would be appreciated
Thanks
Love to all

Rebecca,
I have ben totally smooth for several years and although this is normally achieved by shaving I have often 'plucked' and also been waxed all over a few times, which is effectively the same as plucking.
The best advice I ever got was to exfoliate in the shower every day, using a loofah or something similar. It certainly has cut down the ingrowing hairs for me.
Hope you find something that works for you.

Rebecca,
Nair is suppose to have some new products out for men. "Read and follow all label directions!" I have not used them as I prefer to shave, but I did try Nair for women on my chest - never again, once was enough, but it seems to work great on my legs. If you try the Nair for men, let us know how it works.

Ah, Rebecca--I, too, have suffered the Wrath and Unholy Vengeance of the Follicles.

I hope someone comes up with The Answer.

If I hear of it, I will echo it forcefully from the mountaintops--I hope you'll do the same.
Yours,
Celia

Hi all,
Thanks for your responses, I have tried shaving (would need doing everyday ) hair removal cream (again everyday) waxing (not a single folicle unaffected by folicle's revenge) an electric thing that spins like a 2inch tweezer (same problem) an electric gadget that uses gel and does loosen them but....you guessed it (same problem).
Iv'e scrubbed with allsorts till I'm red raw and now I'm considering trying a blowtorch and nitric acid
Too right, if I do find a result that doesn't cost thousands I will shout it from the mountain tops and I'll be a millionaire and known as St Rebecca of the ingrown hair

Hiya,
I use Nivea Bath Care Ultra Moisturising Shower Cream & St Ives Ultra Gentle Apricot Scrub in the shower.
Then, Dove Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser with Apricot Kernel Oil moisturiser after. This makes the skin feel so nice but it leaves it looking so shiny it's georgeous. I can not say enough about this Moisturiser, if you can find it buy it and I am 100% sure you will continue using it!

Poetic Cosmetics "The Ingrown Eliminator" by Bliss
You can give this product a try
(but remember,
as always ......do a small patch test before applying
any new product to an entire area)

I haven't yet had the need to try it for myself, so if any of you do try it, please let me know how it worked for you

And as Diane said, exfoliate , exfoliate, exfoliate !

Hi girls,
Thanks for all the advice, it really does get me down, especially when that is how you feel inside. (smooth skinned, I mean)
Thankyou for the tip, Love, I will probably give it a try. I have been shaving and using cream recently, but I much prefer plucking. Any other way and i'm prickly by the next day
Hey, if it works it might stop me from going plucking crazy
Love

Rebecca, when I first started shaving my legs I had bad ingrowns but since using the stuff I said about it really has gone away so much. The very top of my legs, just above my knees I was still getting the odd ingrown but since I started plucking these hairs away it seems all smooth now
I use Nivea Bath Care Ultra Moisturising Shower Cream & St Ives Ultra Gentle Apricot Scrub in the shower. Then, Dove Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser with Apricot Kernel Oil moisturiser after. Then pluck the odd hairs above my knee.
However, I do have some stuff I got from boots which I haven't used as I got it the same time I got the tweezers and as they worked I haven't needed to use it yet.
Anyways, it's called Wax-a-way ingrown terminator. £5 it cost, like I say I haven't used it but it says it gets rid of them once and for all
*hugs*

Hi yer,
I use waxing and in between I use a product called silky mit which is a bit like Wet and Dry. Dont overdo it it can cause an irritation. Use as it says on the packet- 4 to the left; 4 to the right; hot towel and moisturise.
I plan to go professional next time though. I am fed up doing it myself in the bathroom, I am going to book in to a beauty salon. I might even meet a nice looking RG to chat to.

Hi girls,
Thanks for all the help, I really must try some of these things. It had got to the point where I tried to ignore it, my body looked a mess (1000's of ingrowns) and I started to get depressed over it.
I can just imagine telling that to the lads on a saturday night, "I'm getting depressed because of hair removal problems" They would look at me as though I was mad, but to me it's serious, it's like my body saying "this is how your're meant to look, so don't try to change it".
My chest is one of the worst offenders, worst luck. The hairs grow in clumps of 3-4 per folicle and are as tough as shoe leather. I had been monitoring this dark patch on my chest all week and last night when it was getting really sore, I dug at it with a needle. 3 half inch hairs were growing under the skin. Ouch !
Like I say, it's time to start trying some of these fantastic tips you girls have been giving me
Many thanks everyone
Love

Hi Rebecca,
What I do when I shave my legs is that I go with the grain instead of against the grain. I also apply a layer of lotion onto my legs before the shaving cream to minimize irritation.
The most important thing is that you must keep your legs good & moisturized, even on non-shaving days.
You can also check this link (I just got this in my e-mail as I was typing this)
there is a product called "total shaving solution" located at this site:
http://www.totalshavingsolution.com/
i have used it and it is pretty good at minimizing the irritation. check the site and, if it looks suitable, you should send for the sample or the product.
