Waxing and Depilation

The pain of hair removal by waxing is excrutiating, at least it was when I bought a Veet DIY Warm Wax kit.

The results were not that good either. I can only see so much of my own legs and left bristly patches all over the place.

After 4 weeks I had a reasonable regrowth and subjected myself to another DIY session. What a scunner, some thing went wrong!
Instead of pulling my hairs out by the roots, the hairs all sheared off 1mm above my skin and left my legs looking as if I had a bad case of hairy goosebumps. Each hair has its own little bump to sit on and my legs look awful.

What advice can any of you offer?

Hi Kerry,

Ugh!! #-o
I'm sorry to hear of your waxing dilemma. ))ok((

I wax myself usually every month, and I pretty much wax everywhere.......my arms & legs (mainly in the spring/summer months)............ (I use "Poetic" wax by Bliss)
I also worked in a salon for a few years before I had my children (we used Gi Gi Honey wax in the salon)
I've never used the wax you mentioned......but, I'll try to help if I can [-o<

I just have a few questions first.........
1. Was the wax maybe too hot?
2. Did you have redness on your skin along with the "bumps"
3. Did you spread the wax in the "same direction" as the hair growth?
4. Did you wait too long or too short a time before removing the was strip?
5. Did you make sure the cloth adhered to the wax enough by rubbing? (assuming the wax your using requires the use of a cloth strip)
6. Did you hold the skin taught before removing the wax?
7. Did you remove the wax "against" the growth of the hair? (I suspect maybe this might be the problem, by removing the wax in "the same" direction as the hair growth, it can leave you with bumps and the hair not properly removed)
8. Did you apply an antiseptic lotion to the treated area ?
9. Did you remove the wax "quickly" enough? (one fast, brisk pull, "across" the area and not in an "upward" motion)
10. Was the skin cleaned prior to waxing and free of any oils?

Safety Precautions
* To prevent burns, test temperature of heated wax before applying it (on a small area on the inside of your wrist)
* Don't wax over warts, on moles, abrasions, cuts, irritated or inflamed skin, sunburned skin, varicose veins or new scars.

Hi Love,

Thank you for your great efforts to contact me.
I am having probs with my PC since I downloaded SP-2 for Microsoft.
Everything has slowed down. They are trying to tell me that its due to web traffic. Thats bull**** because my Mozilla Browzer is still fast. But not every utility like Yahoo works with it properly.

The wax which gave me the problems is called Veet (Immac) Ready to Use Wax Strips - supposedly effective on short hair.

You warm it between your palms and spread it on and pull it off. I think I applied it in hair growth direction and I think I pulled it sharply against the hair direction.

I pull the skin down or tense the muscles in the relvant area, and pull.

The product is first time for me. Last time I used Hot Wax with little problems, but I cant find the refills anywhere.

I have been in touch with a Beauty Salon here in Aberdeen. They are quite happy to wax my legs if I book an appt. They charge £16 or $28 in your money. I think I will go down there next time.

I have a Crossdressers Fashion Show / Competition I want attend at end of October, so I'll book just before then.
How long should my hairs be for them?

Thanks again Love.

hugs

Kerri

Hi Kerry,

:-k Hmmm......

Since I've never had experience in using that particular wax........the only other thing I could think of that could have made that happen is, maybe the wax wasn't warm enough; by just "warming the wax between your palms and spreading it on and pull it off"......to me it doesn't seem like the wax would be melted enough to be able to adhere to the hair properly (firmly and evenly adhered to the hair)

I think it's a great idea for you to have a professional waxing before a special ocassion.......You might want to make an appointment at the salon, just to do a "test strip" on a small area, to properly ensure you don't have a skin reaction......You may also want to make the other appointment for at least 3 days before the day of the event (to allow any redness to diminish).............also, pay attention, so that you will learn how to properly wax yourself in the future (if you'd like)

I usually wait until there is at least a weeks worth of growth before waxing

P.S. "(SO)" stands for Significant Other...

I've read where others have had problems with a rash from using the Veet warm wax.

Take one or two uncoated aspirins (if not alergic to aspirin) and dissolve them in about ¼ cup water and then apply the solution with a cotton ball to the area. The addition of green tea may also be helpful.

Moisturize with a lavender oil.

Last night I applid some Epil-Stop to my arms & hands... they were quite hairy!!

I left it on for the required 10 minutes... 10 minutes later I followed the directions & wiped my arms off with a damp cloth... NOTHING. :?

But then... I re-applied the Epil-Stop, leaving it on for 20 minutes. This time I could actually see the hair dissolving right before my eyes! The hair came clean off and it didn't irritate the skin. I was most impressed. @@9@@

I just purchased some Nair for my legs. I know that everyone has her own individual results, but I think I can kiss shaving good-bye!! :)

Hey Thanks for the tip. I'd never heard of that product here in UK. But sure enough its sold here.
But the roll-on product for womens facial hair, has a disclaimer for mens facial hair.

"Epil-Stop Roll-on depilatory hair remover is an effective hair removal for smaller areas.

Can be used on the face (womans only, not a mans), underarms or bikini line. Quick and easy. Great for travelling."

Why would this be? Any body know?

Kerry, sounds like that product is meant for lighter textured hair. A man's beard (like mine) tends to be coarser than any facial hair on a GG (there are exceptions, I know!). It could be that the chemicals in that product are specifically formulated for softer hairs, and won't work on heavier stuff.
