Hey Girls...

Has anyone else had problems with the length of bra straps?...I have many beautiful bras but most seem to ride too high with the straps all the way out looking unnatural...Oddly, the pocket bras tend to have enough flexibility to look more natural on me...Twould be nice to know of a place that has a great selection without having them custom made...

I think it would help quite a bit if you could provide some more information - the brands, styles, sizes, stretch straps or not, etc. of the ones which work for you and the ones which don't.

That would help us in comparing to what we have in our own wardrobes.

Jadeanne, I really think it's just the style mebbe' of my chest?...The pretty bras are mostly non-stretchy straps versus the ones' that seem to hang appropriately with having stretch straps...Weird thing tho, is that they seem to fit the breast area ok, but it's my anatomy...Guess I need to lose some chest prolly'...Slim it down....Move it to my hips, LOL...I dunno, I've seen lots of CD pictures and noticed the same thing, that the breasts on a lot seem to be carrying a little too high...

Could be different factors causing that for sure.

I try to go with full coverage bras with the streach straps, they seem to fit the best. Forms don't work well with demi bras!

Most all of my bras fit well with a slight strap adjustment (usually, but sometimes it's right first try), and the band will fit around my back level or slightly lower.

I'm guessing that is the proper fit, seems to make the most sense. And seeing where the band is on most GGs, it's usually in that area.

You may want to think about having someone size you for the proper bra and fit/size.

I find most bras need the weight of breasts to hold them down. The home made birdseed inserts work for this and I am sure the expensive silicone ones would. Balloons and kleenex and the like are too light. And I just don't have enough breast tissue (along with the fact that what I have is mostly pectoral muscle which doesn't sag, at least not yet) to hold them in place. I did find a bralette in Macys that is flimsy enough to work without inserts or with the little silicone AA enhancers. Very comfy also.

Additionally mens torsos are longer than womens so the right place for the bra cup is just sort of different.

I too go with a full coverage style. Years back, the sexier the better...... but they never seemed to fit right, and were pretty uncomfortable too. On full coverage styles, it's not had to find some with a lacey trim, which I really like, but on most, here is my problem. The darn straps keep falling down......... I'm getting more comportable at resetting them, as I notice a lot of GG's adjustinng or they just leave them fall down. Does anyone else have this problem......... or is this normal? Joann

I think I know what you mean if you buy a 40A or small cup bra. They arent made for us "girls" that like to sometimes go out with small breasts. The straps are made for thin small girls and when I have ordered a 38A or 40A the straps are a problem. I gues we will just have to buy the 40B and fill them out with breastforms. Janet

Yes, I've had that problem of the bra straps falling down, and it annoys the bejeebers out of me, too!

The problem can be caused by an improperly-fitted bra or from straps that are stretched out and have less elasticity than when new (and this is caused from being thrown in the dryer as opposed to being air-dried on a hanger, etc.).

To counter the negative side effect of the bra straps slipping off the shoulders, you can buy a Bra Strap Supporter for $15.00 for two in your choice of 3 color combinations. There is also the Happy Strap which has 3 straps (one each of white, beige, and black) for $3.99.

I'm fairly certain that I've seen similar products in retail stores, such as WalMart and the like, but I don't remember their prices.

The last bra I bought was a convertable bra, which included clear elastic straps. These clear straps have not slipped at all.

My guess is that you may not be wearing the right band size (the band size is the numeric part of a bra size). I have had the same problem as you when the band size is too small. It has been my experience that the way to take measurements for bras that are listed on web sites just don't work for men. My breast measurement is a tight 39 inches (measuring very close to but below my bra) and the band size on my bra is 36. So, I recommend that if your measurement is an odd number subtract 3 inches to get your band size. If your measurement is an even number, then subtract 4 inches to get your band size.

One thing to remember about bras is the cups get bigger as the band size is larger. So, the cups on a 36C are larger than the ones for a 34C even though they have the same cup letter size.

Does this method of measurement work for everyone else?

As mentioned here, the male torso is longer than female. Since I sew , I have extended the bra straps about 4" for a proper fit. The 1/2" elastic material in stores is the right width for the adjuster.

When I try on a bra the first thing I do is extend the straps to their maximum length. If the back rides too high at this point I give up because I'll never be able to wear it all day, as I tend to do. I've found, over the years, that too-short straps seem to be less and less of a problem. All things considered, non-stretching straps will be more comfortable for the long run.

I have sewn in, added , 4 inches to length of my bra straps. This lets my bra sit lower and more comfy. I like my underwire to sit just on the last rib bone.
