Yayy! A scientist! And an outspoken one as well -- a bit unusual in the scientific community. I googled her background and she's been around a while. Obviously I haven't seen this book, but looking at her body of work, it'll be primaryly about biology (in particular, ecology) but some of the chapter titles look mighty interesting!

The best place to start when researching a scientist's background and creditials is his/her vitae at the University they're at and here it is:
