Here in the UK there are a lot of women in politics, currently 125 out of 646 so 19.35% of Members of Parliament are women. Don't forget Margaret Thatcher who was the Prime Minister (the highest office) from 1979 to 1990.

Local politics is more evenly divided in the UK

On second thought, maybe it is a good idea that I'm not our here much. Sara Palin is a joke - pure and simple. CJ - some women absolutely thrive in higher levels of power and some (just as men) become ogres. Since I was laid off and had to quickly evaluate what I did want to do when I grow up (I'm 58). A lot of our choices is in how we were raised, our value systems and culture. We actually do rule the world - we just don't think we want to tell the men quite yet.....they aren't ready for it! :P

Well I'm 57 so maybe you can help me...But anyway, I think society (in the UK, but probably over the rest of the West) has been getting more and more ogre-like over the past few years. It's imperceptible and it's grindingly slow but the hyper-competitiveness of the Thatcher-Reagan era has (IMHO) got up a fresh head of steam. So like before the idea was you had to be ruthless to get to the top but now you have to be ruthless and nasty.

If you ask me, somewhere under the surface, that's an attack on women - who, while, in themselves are just as capable of being as nasty and ruthless as men, nevertheless have an ethic that says they should be caring and holding etc. So it's an attack on that ethic.

Of course you have to believe that such stuff is going on in society, but then...
