White after Labor Day?

Post by Deidre Taylor »

I went out dinner with a couple of the girls from work this evening. We were having a goo dtime when one of them ponted out a woman wearing a black and white print dress with white strappy sandals. They all seemed to think whe was out of style because it was after Labor Day. Personally I thought she looked nice and saw nothing wrong with what she had on. Am I wrong here? I thought that old fashion rule died a while ago but maybe I am wrong. I defer to all of you on this one.

Hi, Deidre -

You are correct . . . the old-fashioned "no white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day" rule died a well-deserved death quite a few years ago =D> , although there are many (mostly older folks) who still adhere to that 'rule.' To each his/her own!!

I swear winter white this past winter looked exactly like summer white. Last year I got a black and white dress for Easter. I thought it a bit odd at the time, but it certainly worked just fine when I finally got the chance to wear it even if I missed Easter. :)

what a strange rule. of course I never heard of it until now. I guess the fashion rules are all dependent on the company you keep. So what was the objection, that she had a black and white print dress? So does that mean you can't wear any white, not even a white cami or something? Or was it the white shoes? So I have some off-white shoes that I plan to wear with my new dress, will I be in violation? Or will it be OK since I will be in the southern hemisphere? Anyway, who makes these rules? I think they spend too much time reading Vogue.
