Hi ~ When it comes to fashion, what types of outfits are appropriate with boots? I live in snow country and there are times when heels are simply not practical. Are there any guidelines to go by? Thanks

I don't think there are any firm rules there. It's pretty much risk-free with jeans, over or under the pant leg, and it's pretty easy to make a classy boot work with a long skirt or dress. Shorter skirts or dresses can work, but suddenly you need a very clearly fashionable boot that works stylistically with the rest of the outfit. There are many more ways to mess up that look so if in doubt, avoid it.

I was at a professional women's conference in the middle of fall and I'd say 90% of the women there were wearing boots of one kind or another in cool, slightly damp weather. I have several pairs that I adore, ranging from a pretty reasonable heel to something more borderline impractical.

I don't think there's any hard and fast rules either. I love boots, they look great with long skirts or minis and especially with jeans. I don't think I'd wear boots with a summer dress or an evening gown though. Another reason for loving boots is they give such great ankle support. I can wear a pair of 3" heeled boots all day in comfort, something I could never do with a pair of stilettos with the same heel.

There are no hard and fast rules for wearing boots. We live in the Chicagoland area and see just about everything - the good, the bad and the just plain ugly. Snow/rain boots never look spectacular with anything but they are warm and practical usually with jeans or leggings. Shoe booties are absolutely delightful especially the peep toes and in some cases I would wear them with a long evening dress or a short summer dress but they are impractical for snow and ice - LOL. If you are to the point where you know what looks good and what doesn't wear it and enjoy!!

Late reply I know but thought i could chime in. I just joined the forum.

For me it's all about the boot. No matter what you wear it with the boot must be in fashion. Most women are crazy about boots my self included. They draw a lot of attention so it's best to do it right. so if you are wearing it with a short skirt where the whole boot or most of it will show make sure it's a modern cut and heel. This changes most every year but not always which is why its good to take a look at any fashion magazine. Especially at end of summer because thats when the Fall Fashions editions come out and they are always heavy focusing on which boots are hot and what outfits and legenths they work best with. If you cant see all of the boot and you are pearing it with a long skirt or pant then it just needs to be a more recent heel cut meaning not hot right now but not outdated like older than 4 years. I am trying to make this reasoning sound more logical but having a hard time with that right now. Hope my ramblings make sense and i hope this helps. Also almost every woman will wear different boots to a business conference than she will out to dinner or a party.
