I just recieved word my aunt passed away. She has been my shining star and greatest supporter forever, in many ways I was always a lot closer to her than my own mother. As per her wishes she will be cremated and there is a memorial service next Saturday in Vegas where she has lived for the past 20 years or so. I will be attending as Karen, Shirley would kill me if I did aything but. I am still relatively new to all of this and although I have attended memorial services or other people they have always been from the LBGT community and just friends. My question is what is an appropriate outfit to wear to such a service? I have 2 LBD's which are relatively conservative, knee length hems, is this appropriate? I was thinking one of those with simple sterling silver jewelry, black pumps, and sheer black hose.

I think that would be very appropriate attire, with a small black handbag and maybe a hat.

I agree, an LBD not too little should be fine.

I've been to funerals recently where you'd think people just stopped buy from a day of shopping.

I am so sorry for your loss Karen. I agree the not too little LBD would be perfect for something like a memorial service especially with understated but elegant jewelry. You may want to brighten it up a bit with a scarf or a constrasting belt.

I don't know about a hat but I do like the idea of brightening it up a bit with perhaps a scarf or a belt. Shirley was always a bit of a fashion rule breaker and I think she would like that. I am going to hit the mall this afternoon after church and see what I can find. I know what it looks like in my mind. A scarf somewhat muted but just enough of a touch of color to brighten my spirits and the memorial service.
