How do you wear a lace dress without going nuts?

I just got this lace dress, and it looks great on me, but it itches like mad. Am I just overly sensitive? Can GGs wear dresses like this without itching, or do they just grin and bear it? Any tips? And no, that's not me, silly.

I have one lacey dress and it feels really soft and comfortable. It could be that the lace is really stiff which would make it really scratchy or you are overly sensitive to the material it is made of.
It might just need to be softened up by taking it to the dry cleaners or if it can be washed in woolite that would be preferable. The dress that I have can be hand washed in woolite.

I have to agree with Sharon washing it in woolite or fabric softner will help with softening the lace up.Some people are overly sensitive to lace and or the finishers that they use when they finish out a new clothing piece.Good luck hun its a beautiful dress!

She summed it up nicely.
One thing that you could do also is to make sure you wear a slip or camisole under a lacy top. Might not be possible under that dress, but as Sharon said, sometimes the lace will soften after washing or dry cleaning.
Nothing worse than an itchy outfit (okay, maybe itchy underwear is a lot worse)! Also make sure that it's the lace itself and not the fabric that's making you itch. I'm sensitive to certain detergents and sometimes have had allergic reactions. Since the dress is new, it's unlikely that you're allergic, but just one other thing to consider.

Well, it's taken a while, but I finally had some photos taken of me in that lace dress. It did itch, but it wasn't anything I couldn't stand for a few hours, anyway. The hard part was, the buttons on the back are just about impossible without help. I was never able to get it fully on until I went in for the photos and got some help from the make-up lady. Only then did I realize that my slip was a little too long. Anyway, here's a photo of me on Flickr:

What is the fabric content of your dress? I have 2 lace dresses (one white and one black). They are both comfortable. The lace on both of them is 100% polyester. The white one has a lace collar made of rayon. You might be allergic to the fabric or the sizing. I used to have to wash men's shirts before I wore them because they itched. An alergy doctor told me is was caused by formaldehyde in the sizing. After I washed the clothes, they were OK.

All of the above advice is good. Perhaps you can also try rubbing a skin lotion on your body where the itching is more prodominant.

I agree. Hand washing in woolite will soften the fabric a lot. I usually let my clothes soak in it for about six hours. (Yes, that can ruin some garments, so read the label CAREFULLY.)

I can think of several possibilities. The first is an allergic reaction to probably the sizing used in the fabric. This happens to me a lot.
The second is if the lace has any sharp points in it that are poking your skin, in conjunction with the first they can work together to increase irritation.
The third thought I have is how smooth is your skin. If you have any stubble that is catching on the threads of the lace it may be irritating.

For what it's worth, I'm wearing this dress to a Halloween party this year, along with a small veil and a wedding bouquet. So it will be quite an endurance test to see if I can get through the evening. It has tiny buttons up the back, and I will need help getting into it ( from my make-up lady ), and I intend to ask the woman running the party to help me take it off at the end of the evening.
