Eye Brush Set

Post by Leanne »

Ladies,

I recently purchased a nice brush set for doing eye make up. I love the brushes and the control I get in applying the powder, and the end results. One of the brushes is actually a small comb, clearly intended for eye lashes or eye brows. I have no idea how or why I might use this. Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Hi, Leanne -

The comb would be used to separate your eyelashes after applying mascara, as eyelashes have a tendency to clump together. The comb can also be used to help shape the eyebrows.

If you are one of those guys who tend to have extremely long, bushy eyebrows, you can also use the comb to hold up the eyebrow hair while trimming them shorter with a good pair of scissors - the smaller comb makes this task much easier.

Does this help you?

SL,

Yes it does help. I wasn't sure what to do with it. My eyebrows aren't a problem, but will give it a try on the lashes when I makeup in the morning.

Thanks so much

Leanne,

Just a quick note. We had a survey here a while back and the discussion centered on what one or two items would SO's tend to "draw the line" at. And number one was --------------- eyebrows!!!!!!!!! Yes, shaped, formed, arched whatever was where most SO's realy had a problem with "us" going out in public, en drab!

Nice, feminine shaped eye brows can have a dramatic effect on our appearance dressed, but en drab the presentation -- well it can cause, dare I say, problems!?

Hi Virginia,

I am fortunate in that my eyebrows are naturally light, both in color and density, and the hair is very fine. I generally just apply a bit of concealer then use a pencil to draw in a pleasing brow. Other than just a bit of "clean-up" I don't actually shape them, and since I don't go out in public en femme that has worked well for me. I can imagine the effect of a shaped brow might have en drab! And its good to know about how the SOs feel.

I do appreciate your advice.

Thank-you

My eyebrows tend to get long and curly (thanks, Grandpa  ) so I've kept them whacked back for years. Fifteen years ago at a restaurant where I'm still a regular, the hostess asked about them being shaped and I told her I just didn't like them getting unruly and annoying me. The one-inch wide beard trimmer I have came with a little comb just for doing things like that. Now that I don't keep a beard, I still use it for my eyebrows once every few weeks.

I've been having my eyebrows waxed for a couple of years (they tend to get long and/or unruly) and my wife is constantly after the tech that "it needs more arch", to which the tech replies "but it will look too feminine" and my wife comes back with "doesn't matter, needs more arch". I will say that I have not really had any comments from anyone about them, though they do have a fair amount of arch and are thinned out/shortened, they are not extremely thin like a pencil line. Of course we also had to train this tech how to do my acrylic nails as she did not want them looking "too feminine" either. Thank goodness I have an approving wife that can also be pushy with someone when she needs to.

If you decide to use that little comb for your eyelashes, post-mascara, be sure you are using a mascara that doesn't have a ton of lengthening fibers in it. Those fibers cling to the lashes to make them look longer, but it hurts like hell if the comb grabs them and pulls the lashes. In that case, the comb will also pull off all the lengthening fibers...rendering them non-lengthening.

Better mascaras (generally obvious by the higher price!) tend not to clump so much. The really cheap stuff for teen girls is pretty goopy.
