So it's been a while. I used to dress and post a little more regularly a few years ago, when my job was such that I worked from home full time. Since transitioning to a new job I've had almost NO time for Laura time.
Sadly since it's been 2 years, some of my stuff doesn't really fit anymore... and as closet space got thin, some of my stuff was donated back to Goodwill (it wasn't being worn much - might as well let someone else use it!) In fact I wasn't sure when I was going to really get to dress again (or find motivation to) until a few weeks ago. A group of friends is hosting a Halloween party and the host (male) announced that he was going as a bride, and needed a bridesmaid... and before I could really even think about it, the wife said, "We're IN!" My wife hit up 5 different Goodwill's in the area dress shopping, came home with a bucket load of dresses. We found two dresses that looked FANTASTIC and we both liked. One was more of a black cocktail dress (not really bridesmaids-y but fit PERFECTLY) and one that was an official bridesmaids dress from David's Bridal that didn't quite fit right and really needed some alterations. So the plan was to alter it, but then after thinking about it, "This is probably gonna cost, what, $100 at least to alter it... how much does a new dress cost that fits properly from the get-go?" So back to the stores we went... this time to Nordstrom Rack, brought home another stack... but none of them matched up to the first two we both liked. We decided to call David's Bridal and see if they had any in stock in my size (and also to see what it cost new - it was $8 at Goodwill...) One thing lead to another, and we found ourselves at the David's Bridal. The sales girls were fantastic - they pulled probably 15 dresses off the racks and sent me to the back dressing room to try them all on, and we finally settled on one (looks AWESOME! and was only $120) Then the tough part became - which dress to wear? That's when we learned about a local crossdresser specialty shop's ("Transformations By Rori) Halloween party... perfect! I can wear the black one to Rori's party, and the David's Bridal one to the other party. (Now the only fear is that the bride is going to come as an "ugly bride"... and that folks may look at me a little cross-eyed since I may look "too" good... thankfully they all know that my wife is competitive and won't put it past her wanting to make the bridesmaid outshine the bride!)
So last Saturday was the party at Rori's. It felt pretty great to get out, I have to say! The party itself was ok I guess - it went by fast and I feel like I spent so much time chit chatting that I didn't really take the opportunity to "take it all in" so to speak. The drive out, I was nervous... the walk across the parking lot, was nervous. Then sat down, was nervous - but met a few other girls who were also nervous so we found that in common, and the discussion went from there. Next thing I knew, it was time to go! In fact I lost track of how I was dressed for a little bit - and shocked myself when I went to the restroom and looked in the mirror! It was a nice surprise
So it was fun, though I guess, almost a little bit anti-climatic? Like the idea in my head was built up so much? Anybody else experience that? I kinda wish I just had time to walk around and just enjoy it without needing to interact with anybody. Maybe that's just me.
Anyways, so the other Halloween party is tomorrow night. Nervous because it's NOT a CD'er party, I'm worried someone is going to tell me I pull it off a little TOO well. But the hell with it - let's do it!
Wife convinced me to get my chest waxed this afternoon (working from home to get ready for tomorrow in between meetings)... holy hell was THAT an experience I don't think I'll be repeating soon! Super smooth now but oy vey!
I put up a few pics in my gallery of the LBD from last Saturday and tomorrow's bridesmaids gown.
