Fashion and it's teen demise

Post by Hayley »

To quote Lou (SO)
but the daughter was dressed like a slob with low cut jeans and fat hanging over the waist and had to be at least 50 pounds over weight. She couldn't have been any more than 18

What makes you say she was dressed like a slob just because she wore low cut jeans with some of her tummy hanging over the waistband? Did she look like she just got dragged through the hedge backwards? or was it merely because she was showing what God gave her around the middle?

Are we that fickle that to have a barbie doll waist and be able to show it off is far better than to have some extra padding that must be kept out of sight? I'm sorry about this ladies (That means all LADIES). But this is prejudice to those who have a little extra. So... Mother Nature was a little generous, but as a parent of a 16 year old daughter who gets taunted for her weight (of which she is only about 20lbs over weight if at all), I find it hard to believe that some are willing to discriminate against those who may be blessed to be built for comfort and not for speed. Hey what ever happened to "If you've got it....FLAUNT it!"? How many ladies here, and let's be honest, try to acheive the cleavage we were not meant to have?

Maybe I am the odd one out here but I like a little bit of "Cuddle-factor". I have seen girls no older than 17-18 pregnant and wearing low cut jeans showing the tops of their G-Strings or thongs at the back, and pretty tops that show naked belly just to keep with fashion. Now that I am not keen on. Girls that show what should be kept hidden UNDER their skirts get the evil-eye from me as well. Should my daughter dress in a way that my SO and I find unacceptable, then she hears our protests. Ultimately it is their choice. They will only change into their idea of fashion once they are out of sight of the parents anyway.

Let them be what they want to be, after all we can only do so much to teach our children what we think is right. If it really bothers you that much then don't look, or at least ignore it and hope our daughters aren't doing the same.

Thanks for letting me rant, and please Lou, do not think that this is a personal attack at you. It is merely my thoughts on this matter.

soap Hayley is basically right. Not to tout obesity, but the persistent drumbeat of thin, thin, thin leads women to anorexia, bulimia, smoking habits, compulsive surgical modification of the body, not to mention the kinds of persecution girls like Hayley's daughter end up enduring. Make no mistake about it--women are painfully aware of the shape of their bodies and whether or not they're overweight. :(( This is a good thing for us to bear in mind when we think of taking a woman or a girl to task for the amount or distribution of her body fat. soap
