In answer to Jessie's question,

I bought my knee length petticoat online from a square dance apparal store in the state of Washington called Petticoat Junction (gee, I wonder what they specialize in :) )

here is the url where the petticoats are located:

http://www.petticoatjct.com/merchant2/m ... y_Code=PET

I bought the style 580 in medium (22 inch) length. They list several others that are longer. I thought my credit card purchase was handled well and I received my petticoat in just a few days - not bad considering that I'm on the other side of the US, near Buffalo, NY.

Details on Malco Modes petticoats can be found on their website at

http://www.malcomodes.biz/

They don't sell retail on their website, but they do have a link to retailers at

http://www.malcomodes.biz/retailers.html

Malco Modes also makes bridal petticoats. For French maids, there are a couple of short petticoats available intended for girls, but who says they couldn't also be used by bigger girls dressing as French maids?

They also make pettipants. I think if I were going to be dressed as a French maid with a very short pouffed out skirt and petticoats, those are the kind of panties I would want to wear to make the view memorable

I guess I slipped into bleached blonde mode, even though I'm wearing my short, curly ash blonde wig. I will stop now and pour the peroxide out of my shoes.

Hi all,

This is a petticoat update -

Today I received my second petticoat - this one I ordered online from Petticoat Pond. Here's the link:

http://www.pettipond.com/currents2.htm

It's a little longer, fuller, and stiffer than my white Malco Modes petticoat - also it's black.

I'm wearing it now with my gray floral dress and love the way it poufs it out :)

Who else likes petticoats? Please tell us about it.

I'm refreshing this thread so it will be more visible to all, especially the newer members.

Since my last post, I've worn the new petticoat sveral times and here's my initial review:

The black one is net, longer, fuller, and a little scratchy without a liner. So far, I've used half slips, full slips, and my softer white Malco Modes petticoat a couple of times with long, full skirts.

So, forum members, please post about your petticoat experiences.

Julie,

I'm glad you read this thread and added your input.

Is your beginner petticoat made by Malco Modes?

I looked at that model (would have been below the free shipping minimum where I bought it) before deciding to get the more expensive model, which included shipping. The less full 22 inch petticoat works with more available outfits (my wife's with her permission and mine).

The black one ($27 including shipping) is fuller yet, 26 inches long (also available in 28 inch length for the same price), and works with some outfits that have skirts that are too long for the white one. A few outfits have skirts full enough to work great with BOTH petticoats. That's a real dreamy feeling the times I wear those outfits @@9@@ .

For me, the ultimate petticoat fantasy would be to have the outfit (with at least one attendant) to be an antebellum bride!

Well, that's a fantasy - at least I can enjoy the outfits I have now, fit through the doorways, and use my small bathroom, although that gets to be a bit of an adventure sometimes when I'm wearing corset, petticoats, etc.

Julie,

Your newly purchased petticoat certainly looks darling. I assume you can handle the replacement of the elastic.

After you get it, please tell us all about it.

petticoat, petticoat, my kingdom for a petticoat

Post by Josey »

Hi,
After reading two pages of posts on this subject, I just had to comment. When I was real young, I used to get into my mother's clothes and she had some petticoats and a beautiful taffeta green full dressy skirt. I loved it. Guess who now owns several petticoats and also a green taffeta full dressy skirt. Unfortunately, I am rather large and they don't look real great on me. They look best with a thin waist which I don't have.:(( I am working on it, however, and hope by this time next year to look just great in this and several other full skirts I own. *-*
My love for petticoats really started in high school when I sat across from a beautiful blonde named Sally who used to wear full skirts and loads of petti's. When she sat down, or when she was just sitting there and knew I was looking, she would flip those petti's and skirt up giving me a very good view. Then, she'd sit and smile at me knowing she was driving me wild. #-o Ah, those were the good old days of flowing hormones!
Thanks for letting me relate some of my past.

I LOVE these things!!! :)

Back in the 80s they were worn as outer skirts, which was inspired by Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. And right about now, fashion is starting to loop back to the 80s! Stiletto heels, big belts, hipphuggers and midriffs fill the retail stores once again (while a nightmare for us to wear, still good GG eye candy) and of course frilly petticoat skirts!

In this pic I'm dressed retro 80s style, wearing a black petticoat. ;)

I have a petticoat question?

How do you sit in a chair with a petticoat on? Be specific if you can.

I usually pull the back up and to the side then sit. I let it drape around the chair.

I also know that I belive that you are not saposed to sit when you where a petticoat (according to the old rules)

Hi Y'all,

First, let me say to Lorna, I wish I coul dlook like you do. You look great and I love that little skirt.
When I last posted, I mentioned my green taffeta skirt. I wanted so badly to post a picture here but I didn;t have a picture on the I'net. I've changed that. I now have a very small web site which will increase as I get more pictures and more to say. (Who, me?) I am hoping I can figure how to post a picture now.

That's the best there is at this time but improvements are coming.
From the preview, I would guess this is not working but I don;t know why. Sorry.

Hi Y'all,

I am posting this just to thank Beauty publicly for her wonderful support. She is one bang up moderator. *-* For some reasons still unknown totally to me, my picture wouldn't post. @33@ It is now there for all to see again thanks to the magic of Beauty. Look back one post and see her handiwork.
Thank you again gorgeous and fantastically talented lady. =D>

Hi Jessie,

The old rules didn't apply even in the fifties. Most who sat did so in the manner you describe. The only rule I think might apply is that you shouldn't flip the skirt and petti up in front as you sit unless you are trying to attract some guy in front of you. [-X Take it from me, it works. I had a girl in high school who did that all the time and it sure got my attention. Have fun. :-&

I am like Julie - too much variation in my waist from year to year, (larger lately), but I have two petticoats (same as Crinolyns?). One I stumbled on in a DAV store, a perfect fit, with generous elastic, and fits perfectly under a red multi-tiered square dance dress. No legible label, but lots of fullness. Weighs at least a couple pounds by itself! The other, a bridesmaid crinolyn, also from a thrift shop, adn a label I don;'t remember right now, which was too small at the waist but also too long. It had ample flare at the hips, so I shortened it at the waist, adding elastic, and Voila!. Something to wear under my fullest long skirts. It also has very scratchy netting, but is (thankfully) nylon lined, or I'd be broke buying new hose.

I've always loved full skirts and/or dresses with fullness below the waist, pleated or circle. There is nothing more feminine. I think the crinolyn is almost as effective visually as prosthetic hip pads.

I doubt I could ever pass in public in one of these, but around the house, you bet I wear em. Love em!

Hugs,

Bernice

I'm bringing this thread back up from the depths so newer members will be aware of it and remind lontime members that it's still here.

I haven't bought anything from ebay (yet, anyway) but found at least one shop selling bridal hoop petticoats with removable and adjustable hoops. Do any members have one?

It seems that this blonde thinks that one of them could be quite versatile - remove the hoops and it could be used to pouff out long full skirts, and put in the hoops and adjust to wear with floor length lounging dresses/ caftans/ nightgowns.

Have any members done something like this?

Did I just combine blonde and think in the same sentence? Couldn't that be considered a (per)oxymoron  ?

What are your petticoat dreams/experiences?

Hi all,

I hope all of us in the USA had a nice holiday and the rest of you in other parts of the world had a nice day.

This afternoon, my wife and I attended a US Civil War (1861-1865) reenactment at a nearby musem and I had a very interesting time.

They were reanacting a skirmish from the battle of Gettysburg (1863), and we visited both the Union and Confederate camps (about 12-15 soldiers in each camp). This was the first time I met and talked to any reenactors and enjoyed learning how they did things.

When I was a teenager a man down the road from me had a muzzle loading target rifle and we went out target shooting with it a few times.

I enjoyed the skirmish and got some nice pictures of the action.

Among the spectators were several female reenactors in hoopskirts. After the skirmish they went to a third small group of tents, where they represented Confederate refugees. My wife was a real angel and we both went over and talked, finding out that they represented Confederate women fleeing the Union army. My wife asked them about their costumes and they told us a lot about women's clothing of the time (1860's).

My wife asked them how they were able to sit down, and one of them told us about her hoops, that were connected with strips of cloth tape. The weather was almost if not quite in the low 90s, but the lady said that her hoopskirt with one petticoat was cooler that 7 or more layers of soft petticoats would have been.

Being dressed as an antebellum Southern belle is a fantasy of mine, but I know it just wouldn't be practical for me. Getting through the doorways of the rooms in my house would be quite an adventure.

I will settle for my shorter nonhoop petticoats that I can wear with a number of dresses and skirts that I already have and my dressing in the 1950s era instead of the 1860s.

What are your petticoat dreams/fantasies/experiences?
