Bra shopping

I will try to kep this breif but get all the important details in.

Three weekends ago I thought I was going to have to go to a town about 4 hours away so I packed a suitcase for Leeza and a bag of drab clothes. I didn't have to go so went to work on an apartment in a close by town.

While there I went for a bra sizing with my granddaughter and a friend. I had some makeup on and ear rings but otherwise drab. When we walked into the JC Penny store I was carrying the friends baby in her car seat.

The girls asked for the SA who did the bra fittings and the granddaughter headed towards the fitting room while the friend went over to the panties area. I was trying to stand out of the way of customers with the baby. One of the SAs said "Mam, there is a chair over by the mirrors" which was by the panties area. In a soft voice I thanked her and headed over there. The friend said that my face lit up when the SA called me a mam.

When we went to pay for the new bras the SA found out that I was not a mam as I had to pull out my ID to write a check for the granddaughter's bras.

Two weekends ago I had to go to a town about 4 hours away. For the trip down I was enfem and twice had to stop into rest areas with no problem. One of them I was greeted by a maintince person as I entered the facility. Due to time constraints I had to travel back in drab.

Last weekend I spent 2 dayes enfem working on the same apartment including going to the store for a few thngs. There were times I was called mam and times I was called sir in one instance by the same person about 12 hours apart. Just answered the mam in a soft voice, but the sir I ignored like I didn't hear it.

My dauhters are telling me that I am getting more brave and I have to agree, but I have had people that know me tell me that I am more relaxed and more fun to be with than my male counterpart.

Trying to enjoy life

i'm finding i am getting more mam's. a server mam'ed me last week. "what'll you ladies have" when i was waiting with my wife.

i am dressing 'softer' even when in drab and my hair is 9 to 12 inch long. of course i almost always wear a bra with forms when i go out. i feel so much better, not worrying about what someone might think.

the ones you must watch out for are those young girls 12 to 15, they read you quick...

I find they read me but I have had no problems with them. They just seem to smile at me as we pass. And had a few giggles from behind.

But IMHO, a lot how others react has to do with your comfort level. You act nervous and try to avoid people you draw more attention and give off a sense of nervousness and that there is something wrong with what you are doing. I have found head up and smile while going right at them works good. And talk about a confidence booster after wards.

Congrats on your successful outings, Leeza! =D>

Another thing that will get most CD's 'read' is when you (the CDer) are taking pictures of yourself while out shopping, in the store/mall's parking lot, etc., especially if you are by yourself.

:-k Think about it! Most GG's do not take photos of themselves while out shopping, so if someone is seen doing that, attention is automatically drawn to them - good, bad, or indifferent - and you will most likely get 'read'. I'm not saying that you will get harassed, but you will definitely draw attention to yourself.

So, if you want to blend in and be treated like everyone else while shopping, leave the cameras at home. [-(

good point. the idea is to blend in, not to stand out.

another factor that'll make you stand out and be subject to being read in not dressing in appropriate clothing for the activity. most shoppers are not in high heels and skirts, tennis shoes and jeans are the norm. for most women shopping is work, just another task in their long day, and they dress accordingly.

of course, on sunday i did take a walk in the park wearing a dressy skirt and heels. it is was around the time churches let out so it was plausible, not likely based on how church goers dress today, but plausible. it was a nice day and i was met with several smiles and polite nods.

i think if you make eye appropriate contact, keep your head up and smile most people wouldn't bother trying to read you.

I have found this is no longer the case. I've been in several malls the last couple of years, and it seems that women in heels and/or skirts outnumber women in more casual dress most of the time.

CarolAnn, I have to agree with you.
The other day, I was in Dress Barn and was selecting a new skirt and blouse and discussing clothing and style with the staff. Their comments were that they appreciate the cd's who are not over the top and dress there age. The also commented that more women are now puchasing skirt/blouse and dress more often the ever before. As the old saying goes, "as the hemline so does the stock market".
Hopfully, they are buying shorter skirts. Forgot to as that question.

that may be true, crocker park is an outdoor 'village' mall with the shops blended in with streets and parking so maybe it was just the weather. i was in a skirt and didn't feel too out of place, i just notice most girls there were in jeans. the younger the girl the more likely she was in jeans.

but i don't think most GG's are going to slip on a nice dress and high heels to go to the drug store or pick up groceries...

florida may be be different. i was visiting my daughter in sarasota this summer and talking with some of her friends at a party. seems GG's down there like less formal attire, lighter skirts and blouses, becuz of the weather. they envied our ability to layer our clothing up north, saying they seldom were able to wear more than one layer.

the clerk is correct the best way to fly under at radar is to dress how other girls your age are dressing.

excellent point, do your part to fix the economy, hem up those skirts!

the wife and i are doing our part, we are preparing to shorten several of our skirts over the winter.
