The other day while traveling from Fla to New England, I has just driven about 25 miles into Virgina on I95 when I had the luck of being pulled over by the State Police for speeding.
As I came aroung the bend in the highway, the lights went on and I imediately pulled over. He never got onto the highway. Just in the breakdown lane. When he approached the driver side window and I rolled it down I commented "Saw you knew it and pulled right over not to spoil our day" When he initially addressed me as ma'dam, asking for my licence and registration I felt a little concerned. However, there was no issue at all. When he looked at the licence picture and me, he was a little lost for words and merely asked if that was still my home address. When he issued the ticket and asked for the signature, he said "ma'dam will you please sign here" No stress from the police, just my own of potentially meeting bubba in the local jail.

You ran into a nice one, at least you've got that.
I got two weeks in a county jail for driving on a suspended license(because of a car accident years and years ago) for driving three of my drunken friends home from a party we'd all went to. I didn't feel like getting trashed, so I sat around all night watching everyone else be stupidly drunk.
The county deputy went through the motions.."license, registration..etc" and when I explained that I didn't have a license, and the circumstances, I got the "what the hell are you doing driving?" response.
I thumbed back to the three in the car, one of which had his upper body out the sunroof, puking all over his car and said "would you rather one of THEM be driving?" Two tickets and a phone call to a g/f at the time later, who wasn't very happy to be woken up at nearly 1 AM, we were all on our way.
A month later, I was standing in front of a judge explaining what had happened, and to my utter shock and disbelief, he sentenced me to a month in jail, with 2 weeks suspended for no operators' license and driving while suspended.

You've just added to the growing lore of dealing with police stops. I remember Virginia's account, and I posted about one several years ago, with the California Highway Patrol. Glad yours went OK, and that you were addressed in line with your presentation. I didn't get either 'sir'ed' or 'ma'med' in my encounter--two different officers dealt with me.
I was amused by the second one saying, "I'm not sure why he pulled you over." Sure--nothing unusual going on here; just a gal on her way home after a night in the city, right?

Sorry about your introduction to Va.'s finest! As you probably know, I-95 is one of the biggest drug corridores in the US and since the 9-11 idiots all had Va. driver's licenses, well our boys are just a bit paranoid still!
As for my little episode, I only wish Michelle had had the same cutie that pulled me over. He was cute and I was only doing 32 in a 25 mph zone, down hill in a non-residential zone. Anyway he was a total professional and well, just don't think to ill of us here in the Commonwealth.
