I'm not sure if this belongs here or in another area since it kinda combines a number of the threads that have been posted lately. We went (my SO and me) to the Sunshine Cathedral last night for a really nice, really nice event. First was a reception with Sharon Gless (of Cagney and Lacey) and George Takei and his partner. I guess we feel its important to us to present a "T" presense at these affairs and there were a few of us. After the reception we went into the church for an awards ceremony and then the most wonderful concert by the Miami and Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's choir. OMG..they were fantastic!!!! A lot of good talk also with various involved people, such as the "American heroes" founder. I told him its not easy being "T" and out, but just presenting myself as "T" shows ya something. A sore topic was the violence we can encounter, not so much me, but others from a less fortunate socio-economic background. It was a very good night in all...and so much enjoyed all the interaction and involved talks. BTW...Mr Sulu was more than gracious...didn't really beam me away...and his partner is a super guy! Sharon was cool also...my SO fell in love...sigh.

Glad you had a great time. I have heard that the choir is awesome also!

In reading your post, you said that "you were not alone." Did you get to talk to any of the other T-girls? It is really fun going to those type of outtings.

We went with two other girls, one (F/T) non-op, one post-op. There were three other girls there I didn't know, but they introduced themselves before the concert and chatted a bit. Most of the good conversation came at the reception earlier.....HRC folks, local GLCC, and a number of representatives of national groups. It seems there is more "recognition" of the "T" community now, since they all wanted to ask us things and treated us with respect. This all leads into our "Valuing our Families" affair next month which is geared towards educating, showing support, and expanding horizons for families with a T member (adult or child). Its been quite a success in previous years, although our corporate sponsorship is down now, given the state of the economy But its all good....and so wonderful just to chat with everyone...ain't no BS at these gatherings Take care

Wow, I bet you had a great time. I have met George twice. Both times were at SCI-FI Cons where he was doing a presentation. The first time he was roaming aroung the dealers room and stopped at the booth I was at. It was an Animie booth with English sub titled Animie Videos. He started watching the one I was watching, then turn to me and said, "BTW, I used to do english dubbing of Animie Movies. But this translation is all wrong." We talked about Animie Movies for a couple of minutes, then he started translating and acting some of the parts for the crowd that had gathered. He was great and a real pleasure to be around.

Hello all: I have had similar experiences at comic book conventions. I have attended several dressed as a "cheerleader" and interacted positively with a number of the convention guests and attendees. (I have a cheerleader outfit in the Sunnydale High School ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer" tv series and comic books) colors: maroon and gold-- that's what I wore to the Baltimore Comic Book Convention last fall. Got some great pix! Would I do it again? Absolutely!!).

Animie Cons ar great places to CD. You be surpised at how many guys dress up as their favorite female Animie Character, but at the same time would strongly tell you they are not a CDer. I'm talking about outfit, shoes, makeup, and etc. LOL
