Is anyone going to the Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta?

Registration starts in a few hours at www.sccatl.org

I am excited, this will be my first big outing. I have been to an support group but that should tiny in comparison. I know of only one person in my area that will be going.

I'm sure it will be a memorable experience for you and we'd all love to hear about it after the fact.

I'd love to go one of these years. Last year I met a delightful woman who is involved in organizing Southern Comfort and it would certainly be fun to catch up with her and attend one of the biggest events of its kind in North America. I'm already committed to a week in Las Vegas, though, and that's pretty much my femme vacation budget for the year. Who knows? Maybe a weekend getaway will come together.

Hi Christine,

I went several years ago and had a great time! If you can spare the time, I would recommend volunteering at some aspect. I worked the registration table my first year and it was wonderful. Seems I got to meet just about everyone that came to the meeting. Everyone was so nice.

I know you will have a great time and ask about the "urban legend" about the father and son who unbeknownst to each other met at the SCC.

Love,

Virginia

I would like to go, but I just attended a smaller conference recently, and I'm not sure whether I will have enough vacation leave to spare.

I have heard great things about the conference. Several members of my support group have been there.

I agree that working as a volunteer would be a great way to meet people.

It is a large conference. I think somewhere around 800 or 900 people attended last year. Some people are regulars and attend every year. They have a special orientation for newcomers.

Tammy,

I too am new to heading out in the open. This will be a great opportunity as we will be surrounded by sisters so no one will be looking at us singling us out.

Some one I am chatting with locally has mentioned the mall a few times. She said the employees there are all informed of our presence and are extremely nice.

Formal night has me looking for a gown. Yikes 8-[

I'd love to get down to Atlanta again, but alas, no money means Kyra stays at home. :pout:

Have fun ladies, and don't forget to let us know how it goes!

Some of you girls are so fortunate to be able to go. I do hope you all enjoy yourselves. One day I may get to attend also. I'm looking into the prospect of maybe joining a local cd club. I tried some 30 years ago but after a couple meetings, (personal life stuff ) things happened and did not follow through. Now I'm older, somewhat wiser and carry no baggage. Better late than never, right!

Hi Diana,

Joining a local club can be a very good thing! You find that you truly are not alone and that surprisingly, there are a lot of "us" closer than you may think.

I (we) SL and I have been fortunate enought to meet several of the girls from this forum in person and I can assure you that you will not find anyone as caring and understanding as those of us who have this "gift."

Get out and mingle and meet your sisters. It is very rewarding.

Keep us posted.

Hi Christine

Congratulations on your upcoming first big outing. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. The SCC is one I hope to get to some day, although not this year. Like you though, I will be taking in MY first big outing soon when I head to the Esprit Conference in Port Angeles next month. Doesn't sound like anyone here is going to that unfortunately, but it is much smaller than the SCC. Heard nothing but good things, so it should be a lot of fun too. I'm sure anyone who's been to any TG event will tell you it's worth going for the experience.

Stephanie, I believe that Jessica_Karen usually attends the Esprit Conference, and I thought at least one other member attended last year, but I can't remember who it was, right now. You might want to check the archives, because I believe they both mentioned it.

No matter who is attending what conference, get out, enjoy yourself, and meet some new friends. Virginia and I attended the Diva Las Vegas in 2007 and we had a wonderful time, meeting fellow forum members, making new friends, and just having fun!

Thanks SL. Yes, JessicaK has been before but isn't going this year unfortunately. No biggie as I know there should be plenty of other fun folks there.....as there is at any of these kinds of events. Must be something about being cd that gives us a sixth sense of being where the parties are! =D>

That's wonderful, Stephanie. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as I haven't heard a single bad thing from anyone who has been. It was actually the first such event that I considered going to because it's in my neck of the woods - and I still haven't been! Sadly, it conflicts with Diva Las Vegas this year and once again I won't be going.

Enjoy yourself and let us know all about it when you get back.
