I was Reading in one of my MMORPG Magazine's and it stated that over 30% of all MMORPG Gamer's Cross Dress while on-line. That is fi they are male their Character/Avatar is Female or if Female their Character/Avatar is Male. I for one have Female Character/Avatar in the three on-line games I play. Anyone else have a Female Character/Avatar?

Several. Out of about 20 or so toons on WoW, I'd say 75% of them are female.

I don't do the games, but I am on a couple of poker sites and Virginia kicks butt!!!!!!!

You young whippersnappers and your MMOs. When I was a young crossdresser we had to do our gender bending the old fashioned way, with pencil and paper role-playing games and dice. You couldn't hide behind some fancy IP address, you had to play your role right there in the open in front of your friends! (Not only did I regularly play female characters in traditional RPGs I had one crossdressing character as well. I suspect one or two of my friends remember that fact, though I haven't asked them about it since I came out to those that played in the same campaign.)

Okay, okay, in the spirit of the original question I have to admit that my characters in just about any video game where I have a choice are female. The same is true for my avatars on services like Xbox Live, although there I picked the female base and dressed her as androgynously as possible since I mix with people from work and friends who aren't all aware of my transgendered nature.

I think a lot males use female avatars. As one player once said, "If I'm going to staring at the tv for hours, why stare at a male avatar?"

The 'old-school' RPG just cracked me up, Kim! I remember the paper and dice days.

I was an old-school D&D nerd, but not to the extent my wife and her brothers were.

The wife found some old file cards and whatnot from those early days a while back, and upon going through a few of their weapons and whatnot, I gave her the "Well, it's no Thunderfury."(a level 60 legendary weapon in WoW that was pretty badass back in the day.)

I'd say 95% of all female characters in MMOs are male IRL (myslelf previously included, I finally detoxed off of WoW).

I also like to play female characters in good ol' fashioned pen-&-paper D&D, but getting people to actually sit around the table is extremely hard nowadays. MMOs allow us to indulge in our fantasies without facing our peers and family directly. I think it's good that young people today have easier access to such an evasion, but I'm saddened that it's such a freakishly addictive and life-consuming one.

This is too funny. I also play WOW and have a few female characters (one is twinked out pally). I knew most of the other female characters were likely male in real life, but I didn't think they would be crossdressers too!

I'll bet most of us have characters with the "elegant black dress" too!

For those girls who do WOW here, you'll have to let me know what realms so I can look you up.

I do not play WOW though several online friends who have left my game Everquest have tried to get me to try it.

I just have too much time, energy and $$ invested in it to change games at this point.

All of my 18 chars on 4 accounts are female. One of the reasons I so got into gaming is that I really play a female and all of my friends in the game even the GG's think and treat as such even to the point of the really female discusions about RL issues.

Anyways if you ever play EQ on the nameless server I am there with my 2 traders, 2 foragers for the times I am not playing and my many chars I really play including my "Quad squad" I 4 box all 65 atm.

If you ever wanted to start EQ start there I can help alot. I pay for 2 of the 4 accounts with game money (buying prepaid cards from others who need the pp) and still have more in-game money to spare. A RL friend and I figured my EQ to WOW cash to be about 475,000 gold in wow money so I can really help you get started in EQ if you so desire.

I've played a lot of MMORPGS, and my main avatar is always male. I dunno, I always try to make my avatars somewhat represent me, so I guess that says something about myself? Sometimes, if I end up playing a bunch of alts, I might make at least one female. But my first avatar is always male.

I was actually a guild leader for one game, and we had several people playing avatars of the opposite gender, 1 female playing a male avatar, and 3 males playing a female avatar (these are the ones that openly admitted it, I'm guessing that there were at least 2 or 3 others). Anyway, from what I gather, here are the reasons why people play avatars of the opposite gender.

-Females play male avatars because they don't want any unwarranted attention from male players. Stalkers, etc.

-Males play female avatars because they think guys will give them free stuff if they think you're a girl. Also, female avatars get invited to more parties, and guys will generally try to be nicer to you if they think you're a girl.

-I've heard some males say that they would rather play a female avatar because they don't want to spend all those hours staring at a male avatars butt. (weirdest excuse I've ever heard)

-One game I play (Guild Wars), the male avatars do look noticeably bad. Warriors in particular look horrendously bulky and out of proportion. So some guys decide to play female avatars, because the male avatars are just that unattractive.

This would be the thread that caused me to sign up for these boards!
While you know that every life-style plays a game as large as World of Warcraft, it feels great to know that people that share your life-style are on the other side of the screen!

I only have one female toon (soon to be 2 after I make my goblin warlock after Cataclysm), and that would be Solannae on Ysera Horde.
