The Pieman

Post by Virginia »

Most of you may not know of or some may not remember a comedian by the name of "Soupy Sales." Well I see where he died at age 83.

His gig was getting hit in the face with pies.

What I remember most was I was in California, probably long before most of you were born, but he had a kid's televison show - don't ask why I was watching it at age 14 but anyway, I actually saw and heard this and the television station immediately just went blank!

He is telling his audience, all children sitting around (yes you have no doubt heard this one before, but I think he may have been the first to say it on live television) "I took my girlfriend to the ball game the other night!
I kissed her between the strikes and she kissed me between the balls!"

Thanks for the laughs, Soupy!

I loved watching him when I was a kid.

One his bits was dressing as his girl Peaches

Gone to that big pie in the sky.

Most of us kids (and lots of adults) would tune into Soupy after school....he was a lot of fun and very unpredictable, which caused him to be taken off the air a number of times  My fave was a New Years day when he told us all to sneak into the parents bedroom and take the green papers with presidents pics on them from mom's purse, and mail them to him!!!! That cost him a few days, heehee. Sounds like it was a great crew and had lots of fun.

Yes I remember Soupy, along with White Fang and Black Tooth and my favorite, Philo Kvetch.

There was the time he commented that his girlfriend wasn't a good cook but could still make his banana creme.....
