Why are you dressed like that?

I’ve been unemployed for about 10 months now, giving me plenty of time to spend days or even weeks dressed en-femme. My wonderful SO still has a fairly good job, so I’ve assumed many of the more traditional roles of the homemaker, and I have begun treating her as the one who brings home the bacon.
One day I had gotten dressed in drab, in order to go shopping and do errands, and for whatever reason that day (probably laziness), I did not change back en-femme before my SO came home from her work. When she got home, she sounded a little exasperated, and she had some rather stern words for me:

For once, I finally understood how many traditional wives must sometimes feel when being criticized for their choice in clothing, and at the same time I felt a little guilty for having worn pants, so I kissed her, and then promptly exchanged my dude clothes for a sweater and skirt. I love her so much. I am so blessed.“OK, what’s going on? Why are you dressed like that? I’ve had a long day at work, and when I get home, I expect to see my partner looking the part. I’m the one who wears the pants in this family! Would it kill you to wear a nice blouse and skirt? Geesh… and what’s for dinner?"
Hugs,
