My first trip to a shoe store was in Long Island. I went to a back room and tried on a heel. I have since purged that pair of shoes, but it was the first time I saw my calves in heels. I didn't need to look twice, I purchased them on the spot. lol

I was so nervous and embarrassed. I wish I had those shoes still. :(

I bought my first pair of shoes when I was 18. I bought a pair of black pumps with 2 1/2-inch heels from Payless. It was senior year, and I remember telling the clerk I needed them for a school prank.

I loaned them and two other pairs of shoes to a drag queen friend of mine a few years later, and she promptly moved to Florida and took them with. She got the black pumps, another pair just like 'em in a grey/black mock-reptile pattern and a 3-inch pair in black velvet. And my favorite swimsuit!

Sorry, I haven't talked about a lot of this stuff in years, and I guess I needed to vent.

Hi Y'all,

Most of my shoes come mail order but I did get up the nerve to buy them once at a store, I think it was a Payless. I tried them on and told the sales lady I needed them for a play I was in. She just said "uh huh" and smiled. When I was leaving, she told me to wear them a little at first and then for longer periods and they would last me for years. Do you think she thought the play was going to have a long run??? ..rofl.. ..rofl..

The first pair of femme shoes I ever bought... a pair of black PVC stiletto pumps purchased in 1996 at an adult shop!

And they sit in my closet, still never worn outdoors to this day! ..rofl..

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, I hate it when people do that! I'ver had so many GG and CD friends "borrow" items only to disappear and never return them again! #-o

Too bad you can't track her down... or can you? :-k

The first pair of femme footwear I ever bought for myself was almost 2 years ago, a pair of puffy lepoard print slippers, going all by myself to Walmart and trying them on - it was on a weekday morning.

They were cheap - $5.99 and I wore them as my everyday slippers for over a year and a half, including most of my time in the house during a Buffalo winter - come inside, remove boots, on with the slippers. They finally started falling apart and my loving wife gave me a new pair of leopard print Dearform slippers as replacements.

I have bought 4 pairs of women's shoes at different times at various Kmarts - about half the time my wife was with me, but I was the one who went through the checkout. The other times, I was by myself and nobody said anything bad - in fact a clerk even checked in back for my a certain color in my size.

Hi ladies...I had written elsewhere about my forays to Payless where I"ve always done quite well and the selection is good and the cost is inexpensive. I was dressed most of yesterday and ventured out to a couple of stores to do some "browsing" and ended up buying a pretty summer dress to wear today while I'm home. I've been buying a lot of clothes over the past couple of weeks since I've been alone again, and it feels great to "replenish" my wardrobe which had been pretty slim beforehand. The dress is just a bit above the knee and I have some really nice slip on heels to go with it...looking forward to the day!

Gee I have worn heels since my early teens ( my mothers ) yes they fit perfect too. The first pair I ever bough for myself was in a K-Mart many many years ago, I told the lady they were a birthday present for my mother  . So she ask if I needed any stocking to go with them and not thinking I said yes, what size does she wear?   now I'm on the spot :( I remember saying I don't know, well how tall is she? so on and so on :( I was so glad to get out of that store, never went back. (--) Carol Ann

PS to this day I still love my heels

Since we have delved into shoes, a couple of quick stories and this one has been confirmed by some of our sisters here. Heels make my legs feel good! Of course the heels need to fit properly. As a powerlifter, after I workout, put on a pair of 4" heels and walk around, to me its like a nice massage. The other is I was practicing walking - stairs, as most of you know are the real challenge for heels, I was so proud of how well I was doing going up and down the oak stairs in the house. (Remember the Bible quote, "pride goeth before the fall1?) Yes, I slipped and bounced my pretty little butt down three stairs, my first reaction was, "Oh no, I broke a heel, (then) Oh I hope I did not damage my new mini." Hurt! who cares about my pain - just don't damage the wardrobe! Yes, I am alright, just bruised pride, wardrobe survived also.
Love,
Deborah

Makes perfectly good sense to me. Your body will heal; the clothes won't.
