A fantastic night out

Post by Carolyn Summers »

What a fantastic night out. To understand my enthusiasm you need to know
a little about my past. I have been dressing for over 50 years and during that
time I was never able to be dressed and be with other transgendered people. When I went out dressed whether to a movie, shopping, a casino, or a restuarant I was always alone.

That changed two months ago when I met with two sisters from the forum. Those were wonderful outings (pun intended). Being with others that shared my interest in dressing was an emotional experience for me.

Last night I drove into Chicago to a place called Big Shot, a restaurant/bar with a piano player, for a monthly meeting of transgendered people. It was so exciting for me to walk in and see 25 people just like me. For three hours we ate, drank, and talked, sharing our experiences and backgrounds. It was a fast three hours. A couple of ladies and I exchanged email adresses so I hope some friendships will bloom.

What a fantastic night out. Will I do it again? You betcha!

Carolyn

I am so glad you found others like you. You are about 2 years behind me in doing so. Isn't it wonderful? The only way is up from here. I wish I could have joined you.

All you girls in the Chicago area take note.

Glad you finally found a place to be yourself with people like yourself. No matter how many times we make a pretense about it's okay that I'm by myself. We can't honestly mean it.

It's wonderful you have a good group to be with.

Carolyn,
Glad you had a good time. Maybe the first group of sisters can build a similar network. Wouldn't that be fun!

Kary, it is a lot easier to make contact when a location is known. I know that a lot of us don't want to reveal too much about where we live, and that is understandable, but a state or an area of a state makes the decision to contact a lot easier.

Had I not been willing to list my location at least as far as state I would not have met two of my CD friends one of which is only 90 miles away and I can see on occasion. The other is in a neighboring state and I was able to plan part of a trip to meet to meet her.

As long as I was staying in my closet somewhere, there was no chance of meeting others other than through the internet, but not in person. When I opened the closet door a little and said “Hey I am in Nebraska” I was able to make a few contacts. When I opened it a little more and said SW Nebraska I was then able to meet people that are close and I may have a chance to meet in person. I have since put the town name on which really narrows it down.

I am not saying that you need to go that far, but you are the only one who can open that closet door so that others in your area may want to contact you.
