Can anyone tell me what products are best for giving men's skin that "girlish glow"? I'm looking for cleansing, moisterizing, etc...

This is an area where individual mileage really can vary, depending on dryness, oiliness, etc.

I have somewhat dry skin and have psoriasis (pretty much kept in check for now bymy arthritis meds of methotrexate and remicade). I use Cetaphil (actually the generic version) as a facial cleanser - it's very mild.

Every day I use the generic equivalent of Oil of Olay moisteriser lotion with SPF15 protection. On my hands , feet, and nails I use an alpha hydroxy lotion (my current container is Vasaline Intensive Care but I have used other brands and they all seem to work about equally well for me). The alpha hydroxy was suggested by my dermatologist for brittle fingernails and it has helped me (not cured, but improved).

That was my limited experience - I hope it may provide a starting point for you, because I expect you to get some more responses.

Like you GG's say "moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!" I too, like Oil Of Olay and Pond's and one of my favorites is L'Oreal Revita. Even with a beard, washing the face two three times daily with a good moisture soap, OLay; Ponds cold creme, then applying a good moistizer in the morning and at bedtime seems to help. I wash with Noxzema two or three times a week also, bu tyou have to moisturize after each time. I have noticed a big difference in the past month or so. It also makes make-up go on easier and looks better.

So basically, no one uses products specially formulated for men? The products made for women's skin work fine??

My wife has worked with cosmetics for over 30 years. She has said forever the products made for women are usually far better than anything made for men because the companies making them know women demand results when it comes to skin, hair, nails, etc and will take the time necessary to get them. Men are programmed not to care or complain, even if they really do (for fear of seeming too girlish ).

When Just For Men hair color came out she would hear wives come in and say how their husband had less than stellar results with the product. She would explain that the manufacturers know men won't go through all the time and effort that women will to color their hair so they made a product that men will use, even though it's inferior. If a man wants natural looking hair color from a box he should buy women's hair coloring. The same for just about everything else that focuses on cosmetic treatments. Men aren't allowed to care about these types of things so they don't get the quality products that women do.

Thanks, makes sense, I have used "Just for Men." and it works OK, I have (embarrassingly) not used female hair color on my hair, yet. I will be trying it after reading your post, this gray has got to go = at least before my next powerlifting meet.

There is a TV commercial that plays during some sports by Gillette for their new moisturizer for men - it starts with "there are 2 ways to take care of your skin - the girl's way" showing ao open medicine cabinet door revealing it jammed full of jars & tubes then the door closing, "or the man's way" with the medicine cabinet opening again empty except for one vertical standing tube of their new product.

Then it shows a man applying it and the commercial voiceover says "It's not your girlfriend's moisturizer"

The commercial ends with the motto - Gillette - the best a man can get.

I've also seen TV commercials for Nivea for men moisturizers, etc.

I see them on the shelf at the stores, and that's where they stay. I don't want "the best a man can get", I want the best anyone can get - I look in the womens section and usually try the generic versions of the name brand moisturizers, etc. If it works well and I like it, it's a true bargain. If it's irritating or really unpleasant, then I haven't spent a huge amount of money for it, and don't feel bad about discarding it. If it's just OK, I try something else the next time.

In my first post, I didn't mention soap. I use the Olay bar soap for showering. I buy the large multipacks when they go on sale.

there's a multi-vitamin spf15 face lotion put out by neutrogena. I like it very much.

I think Julie hit the home run. Men don't really care what they put on their faces, where as women look for results and if they don't get them, they won't buy the product again. The manufacturers know that so they put out an all out effort to be compliant to what women want and expect.
