A very nice day.

Hello Ladies,
I am slowly coming to terms with the forced stereotypical boyhood that I was faced with while growing up in the 1950's. Everything about my dress and grooming was about utility and function. My two older sisters were raised with a feminine focus on style and beauty. I went to private schools and summer camps and the dress was uniforms. Six pairs of blue socks and six pairs of white socks etc... Underwear was always the same as were shirts and pants. After 4th grade at school I wore a sport coat and tie, they were the cheapest my mother could buy. I adopted this style and never really cared about my style and would wear out my clothing until it was falling apart and then I would buy more of the same
Now I am beginning to realize all the fun and artistry that goes into being dressed as a woman (or stylish man). Today I had my first bath in a long time because It dawned on me that it would be better to shave my body while relaxing in a tub (With my glasses on) than trying to shave in the shower. This was fantastic. Then I put on light make up and a bra that fits my actual body (40A) without breast forms, and went to Walmart. I asked a worker in the women's department if there was a plus size section and she kindly directed me to where it was. I bought two pairs of pants, a cardigan top, and some eye liner and I was so happy that I finally was able to get over my anxiety and enjoy my shopping. I also spent time in the shoe department but did not find anything in my size. So Stephanie had her first relaxing tub soak and her first outing, as a guy with light makeup, to buy my needed femme clothing. I really appreciate this forum for helping me understand my needs and allowing me to talk about my experiences
Hugs to all, Stephanie

That sounds like a great day. I love seeing positive stories where people get over their anxieties. If you have a Ross or TJMaxx or Marshalls near you, they have a better shoe selection.

One can sometimes find a good sale on shoes at Payless. I like the large selection at DSW and Carnival.

But I have small feet, thus more of a selection.

Lucky you Donna. Size 11's aren't always the cutest. Gotta HUNT for those! ;)

*-* You go girl! The more you get out the more you will want to. For the most part stores could care less who is buying what, just that they are buying. As for other shoppers let them think want they want. It's your life to live not theirs!

Sounds as if you had an exciting day Stephanie. I too have trouble finding size 11 shoes in Australia. Payless and Big W in Aussie are the best stores for finding size 11's.

I do most of may female apparel shopping at Target. We don't have the selection of big department stores in Australia as in America
(although COSTCO is beginning to emerge).

Hello dear ladies,
I have loved reading all of your responses to my nice day of femininity. I have worn one pair of the pants I bought at Walmart, which is a Women's Within elastic waist blue jean with a leg that tapers to the ankle. I love the look and they fit beautifully. I have a pair of hip enhancing high waste panties from the Breastform store and they give my tush an added dimension which helps fill out the jeans. As to my shoe size ladies, they are a 13 or 13 1/2 wide which narrows my choices, however I was just checking out the Payless Shoe Store website and they have some very nice options for me. Raquel I will check out Target (But pay with cash (-:).
I have been working on my makeup techniques and practicing being a raccoon with my eyeliner, )-:, I have come to appreciate the fact that as a soon to be 67 year old transgendered individual the skin around my eyes is definitely tired and the lids are very hooded...Looking at the fashion magazines and seeing all the beautifully madeup young women does not relate to this "Mature Lady"...My girlfriend and I have been searching the web for, mostly You Tube sites, about these issues and it has been so fun to share this exploration with her. I feel so blessed to have her acceptance of my crossdressing.
I read on this forum the accounts of fellow crossdressers who have a tiny window of opportunity while their wife is out, to dress en femme and my heart goes out to you all. Why is it fashionable for women to wear dress shirts and ties with a nice suit but god forbid a man should puts on a dress? Our culture can be so brutal to "Nonconformity" Why is it OK for a man to own any number of firearms and pistols but not enjoy some silky underwear or the comfort of a silicon breast form and a comfortable bra against their chest? I think that the younger generations are increasingly open to diversity on many levels including gender diversity.
As many of you have said once we get over our own embarrassment of shopping in the women's realm, for the most part we are just another paying customer. I bet we are more appreciative to the sales persons' attention then some of our more socially accepted female counterparts. So whats not to love about our interest and delight in experiencing shopping for anything in the women's department?
I could never "Get" the connection between women and shopping, OMG now I get it and I want a sugar person with a big fat credit card.

Love you all for your strength and courage,
Stephanie
