Songs to Sing in Drag

The director of my church's theater group has mentioned the possibility of another musical, cabaret-type show, in which I would sing a few songs or my choosing. I think he would like me to reprise my Sinatra impersonation, which was well received at the last show, but I would much rather sing as Maggie. If the song is in the right key, I can be very convincing using my own female voice.

My Maggie character is a sweet, demure, intelligent, middle-aged divorced woman from a wealthy suburb. She is very convincing and conservative in appearance - nothing like the typical flamboyant drag queen. Here is a somewhat blurry picture taken of her previous performance.

Can any of you suggest some appropriate songs for me to try out as Maggie? So far I am considering "Send in the Clowns" by Steven Sondheim and "Memory" by Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How about Debbie Reynolds' Tammy (Tammy's In Love)(click here)

Note that you could start out as Maggie, have an intermission, and finish as Frank S.

Hi Maggie,

The obvious one is:
"I enjoy being a girl" from "Flower Drum Song"

Another obvious choice, Shania Twain's "Man, I Feel Like a Woman"

Why dont you sing Rod Stewarts "We are Sailing" for the old sea dog above.

Then for me you can sing "All I ask of you" from Phantom of the Opera.

Have fun,

love

The director told me that he is planning the musical show for February. I hope that he will let Maggie sing a few songs.

Last night while flipping channels, I came upon a concert in which a young British woman was singing "Both Sides Now." It includes the line, "I've looked at life from both sides now . . ." What a perfect song to sing in drag!

Hi Maggie,

Gosh you've turned back the years. It must be 35 years since I last heard the song "Both sides now" being performed.
If I recall it was recorded by an Irish band called "The Johnstons".

Its a lovely song and just right for you, you've sampled life from both sides now.....

Well done.
