What I did not buy today

Post by Tekla »

Know what I bought today?

Nothing. Yesterday I bought nothing. Tomorrow, I'm planning on buying nothing.

Where once I bought things thinking they could make my life better, I'm finding out day by day, that I don't need that stuff. Any of it. Funny thing, the less I buy the more happy I am. Less is more, and materialism is a sickness.

I always thought that being TG was more of a mind-set and spiritual condition then it was a bunch of credit card entries and a pile of receipts. That the real fem is in how I feel, how I interact with people, how I work at being nurturing, compassionate, and intuitive and not just what shopping habits I have.

In large part, TGs, like most of the rest of Americans (or perhaps even more, what girl really thinks that panties with lace trim make her more of a girl?) are consumed by consumerism, and the patterns of consumption eventually consume them. If for time only. How much time do you spend working for stuff you don't need?

As I can only wear one dress at a time, one pair of shoes at a time, then exactly how many do I need?

Am I just one product away from fulfillment? One more makeup item away from passing? One more sweater or twin-set and then sweet acceptance? Doubtful.

If I'm going out dining, dancing, walking, and just being me, who cares how many outfits I have to do it with? Isn't the ability to go out dressed up much better than closets full of clothes that never make it out of the room? Does it matter that I only have a few skirts, a couple of dresses, and a couple pair of shoes at a time if I'm really using them? I think not. I know from reading posts in boards over the course of a decade and a half now that there are a lot of girls out there who would give almost anything to have a night like I have just once in their life, and I do it a couple times a week.

OK, I don't have (and all these numbers come from real posts I've read) 90 bras (I have 3, one white, one black, one pink lace), I don't have 200+ pairs of panties, I got enough to make it almost a month before doing laundry (and that's out of necessity). I don't have prom dresses, wedding dresses, collections of fetish wear, or more clothes than my GF. I have two different skits I dance in. That way one can be hand-washed and line-dried while I wear the other. I have three long skirts that I wear at home and around town. I have two cocktail dresses (long and short), and one sundress. Of those 8 items, 5 were given to me by real girls, two are from Goodwill, and one from Macy's (because I wanted something nice to wear to the opera and ballet). I have one pair of pumps that I wear to formal places, one pair of ballet flats that are kinda cute, and a pair of pink and black converse that I wear most of the time.

I would like to think that instead of shopping, I have more time to do what I want. Its been working for me, at least.

Tekla,

I don't know if anyone ever explained the rules to you, but the girl who dies with the most, bras, panties, shoes, dresses (some she never wore), skirts, and blouses (some she never wore), plenty of panty hose (so as to not worry about that run!) . . . well, she WINS!!

We love interacting with people!!!!!!!!!!! Especially sales people! Sales people selling, shoes and panties and blouses and skirts and dresses and pocketbooks and perfume and make-up and all those things that make us feel good about ourselves.

A girl loves not having enough room in her closet for her shoes and dresses and nightgowns and not enough drawers in her dresser for the new pair of frilly, silky, red, black or blue panties that no one will ever see.

She loves struggling to find places to put that new pair of slacks that are just a bit too tight, but they are sooooo cute and they are her incentive slacks, the ones that will drive her to pass up that piece of chocolate cake so she can fit into them ---- later!

A girl really loves looking at row after row of skirts, blouses, dresses as she tries to decide what to wear on her date and she loves thinking, "I've got nothing to wear!?"

That is what we are about, we are the gatherers, not the hunters! We are gathering so as to have a wide selection to meet our mood, not just stuff something in our face that passes for food, belch, and fall asleep!

A girl likes pretty things, she needs pretty things, she feels good in pretty things, and it hurts her when she does not have a selection of pretty things, even those pretty things that - yes, she may never wear, but they are her pretty things and that in itself holds contentment for her!

When the going gets tough ---- the tough go shopping!

Shop on ladies!

Tekla I liked your post and mostly agree with it. Especially the part about being feminine being an internal thing.

I figure if I have the money and want it maybe I'll buy it. I like to collect things, and I collect clothing among other things. But it all needs to be kept in perspective.

I remember someone talking about meditation and saying how they would build a little fire and place something really valuable by it while meditating. I wondered how many people would put their wallet by the fire and congratulated myself on thinking I would probably put my wedding ring there. Then she said something that really blew me away. She said some people put their glasses by the fire. My vision is 20/400. Now that's what I would call a valuable possesion........
