preparing for Halloween

Post by Absaroka »

Halloween, the crossdressers national holiday.....

I haven't done anything in years but I got to thinking...I'm not going to any parties but there will be a variety of people around town going about their business in costume. Why not me?

So I asked my wife if I could borrow her witch hat. She has a black top which will work well, which I wore to a Mardi Gras gig at her suggesion last spring. I need to find a good skirt. I went to Wal Mart and bought a cheap wig of long gray hair, a lot like my hair but longer.

Then I got to thinking. Yes, I know the expression colder than a witches tit....But they do have breasts. It occured to me this might be a good time to try to get a 2nd opinion about what size bra I should wear. So I went to our good friend Vickie's and explained that I needed a Halloween bra.

The saleslady asked what size the person I was getting it for was and I said I wasn't sure because I didn't quite understand sizing. She asked was it for me and seemed mildly surprised. But then she was quite helpful. I had purposely gone in the morning when the store was empty. However that meant there weren't any other sales people except her either. She went through a brief discussion and then had me try on their largest band size, seeming again a bit surprised that I didn't want a corresponding huge cup size, and had me try it on in the fitting room.

I was surprised how comfortable it was but it was still too small and way too expensive. They just don't carry a lot of stuff for muscular 6 footers in that store...So I thanked her and left. It might have been nice to get some more attention in figuring out the right size but since I wasn't going to buy anything at that point how much can you ask for. It made me think that if I do this again I may well also seek out a cd store rather than a womans store, just for general comfort level, for the comfort of other customers if nothing else.

I thought about her mild surprise. She was very pleasant, just surprised, and I thought that I really in a situation like this need to allow other people the honesty of their own reaction.

Anyway I have plenty of bras which I have sort of figured out the size on to use.

So the plan is go for my walk, go on errands like the grocery store, go to the gym. I may modify the costume a bit for the gym- putting on a bra in the guys locker room even on Halloween might be a stretch. I'd love to go for a walk in the woods.

The big decision is weather or not to shave my beard. My family is unanimous that I look scary without it. It would go great with the costume but I really don't like how I look clean shaven and it's a lot of work. And it's Halloween. Why can't a witch have a beard?

I'll let you know what happens. I told my wife about this-left out the visit to sister Vickie's however. She said I was crazy even as she told me she is planning to be the bride of Frankenstein all day. But she wasn't upset.

No disrespect to any Wiccans here intended.

Well yesterday when I went to the costume store who was in there shopping but my wife. Pretty funny.

I got dressed in witch drag-long black and silver skirt, creepy black top, appropriate undergarments, and nice hat and wig. I went for a pleasant walk at dawn for about a mile. Nice to be out in the open. Later for errands. Maybe I will stop by Sister Vickies and thank the saleslady for her help.

The whole family is in costume today. My eldest was quite enthusiastic and my youngest made me promise to change before I pick her up from school. She basically said I am creepy and scary enough without a costume. We will have to work with her on her phrasing.

Hi Absaroka--
How nice that you got to go out on National Crossdresser Day. I was thinking about all of us today, and wondering how many offices were getting surprised by seeing one of us appear right before their eyes.
Anyway, that was a great idea to be a witch. That's a little more neutral than showing up at the office in a miniskirt and heels, for instance.

But, hey, your youngest daughter's got to scale down on the cool meter.
There's got to be one day of the year where you can show up as you please.

Yes but she is 13. One of those people Virginia talks about traveling in packs of 2 or more. Actually she can constitute a ravenous wolf pack of one when it comes to taking inventory of parents coolness.........A few more years should help but her basic problem was the idea that a grown man would wear any costume. But then I can even embarrass her by clapping along with everyone else when the church choir sings.

Any way the day was a lot of fun. I did go back to sister Vickies and they were very admiring of the effect. They went so far as to comment that I had actually gotten my "breasts" to be properly sized and in the right shape and position on my chest and asked how I accomplished this- I told them it was barley in a sock and they were intrigued. I commented that the lack of pockets was annoying and they said that since I had not thought to carry a purse I would have to keep my car keys in my bra. Then I stopped to put gas in the car and the guys hanging around the gas station said they liked my costume and one took a picture of me. A pretty funny one, a witch pumping gas. Pulling my car keys out of my bra there got quite a laugh also.

On to physical therapy where everyone working there was in costume also. They all agreed I had outdone them but I had to change into drab for PT. Same as all the GGs who need to wear sweats to PT.

I did a few errands and then went to the local mansion turned park where I sometimes walk around at night. Wandered around haunting the place and admiring the view and taking pictures. What's a CD without a camera............ Then back home. My 17 year old got home from school with some friends, gave me a big hug and admired the cohesiveness of my ensemble before warning me to change before the 13 year old got home and pitched a fit, which I did.

Later on in the evening I put the whole thing back on and went for a stroll with my wife while the kids handed out candy to trick or treaters. She said the costume was very good, very effective. First however she remonstrated me for borrowing her skirt. She said she was afraid I would stretch it. When I said that it fit me perfectly and I did not stretch it at all I think she got even more upset......you know the agenda on that. However she gave me an older skirt that she doesn't wear to use instead and it was actually more comfortable and probably worked better with the outfit. I told her the story of the bra and the visit to Vickies and she was a bit taken aback, mostly surprised at how much effort I had put into this. But it made me realize how not ready she is to hear much more about any of this.

Last stop was the gym where I have to say that taking off a bra in the mens locker room really did feel wierd. Too wierd for me to put it back on again after my workout although there was no choice about the skirt and top. But the hat made it all plausible. I don't know how GG's stand working out in those things.

I think what was the most fun of all of this, aside from just walking around in broad daylight in public, was the fact that I got such disparate items of clothing to all work together. The hair and the skirt for example really worked with each other. I really enjoyed the many compliments I got. And as for the fact that it was halloween and a costume, well for me anything besides a teeshirt and jeans is a costume anyway.

I was also astonished at how much more feminine I looked with just a cheap Walmart wig that was utterly obviously fake. It made me wonder what a good one would accomplish. And that's without shaving the beard, which my family and I were all unanimous about not wanting.

Again I want to reiterate that for me this is fun. I mean no disrespect to those for whom this is all something far more serious.

Thanks for letting me ramble on about what I wore today.
