Simple question - How many skirts does a girl need?

I’ve never been out en-femme. I am a home based girl I hope this post is welcome here.

I went shopping last weekend with Senior Management (my lovely wife) and came back with the usual haul of 2 skirts and 2 tops for me and a beautiful black evening dress for her. SM wasn't looking for a gown but when they discount something like that by 70% one doesn't say no. Tuesday was 'fashion show' night for me and one of the tops looked absolutely dreadful on, it's not often I chose wrong but it looked like a lilac hopsack on me, it just had to go back. Wednesday lunchtime took the opportunity to go to the store to exchange it for something else, I'm a sucker for skirts so I thought I'd get another off the sale rail, while rumaging through the size 12s I saw two that I already had, another that I had in a different colour and I thought to myself do I really want another skirt. Then I saw it, purple knee length, straight skirt with pinstripes of purple sequins on it, absolutely gorgeous. Had to have it of course and with the return of the lilac tunic it cost just £1.

Having only come out of the closet last year I now have a wardrobe with 20 skirts in it, that might not be a lot for some but I now have more skirts than SM!

So ladies, I don’t know if this question has been posted previously and before I go shopping again. How may skirts does a girl actually need?

I'm just getting into skirts again (literally and figuratively speaking). I've got about 6.

I don't wear trousers, only skirts. So, I ask myself that question often, when I'm shopping

To quote my grandmothers cooking recipes, some. Enough but not too much.

Is there such a thing as too many? I am afraid to count how many I have. I love skirts and have only ever worn some type of slacks or jeans twice when being out and about. And only once around home. All times were for my wife's benefit.

Good question,
Ever morning when I get up I look into my closet and wonder what will I wear today. Gosh a girl never has enough cloths or shoes. =D>

I agree with my sisters, =D> How many is too many? Never enough. Gosh there are four seasons, there are 12 months, there are (yet to be determined number of holidays!) The the number of reasons we go out, to eat, to shop, to entertain or be entertained, clubbing, concerts, etc.,. Then trips to warm places and to cold places and places in between and on and on and then you have tops that don't have matching skirts and skirts without matching tops and long skirts and mid-length and mini and full and pencil and pleated and tight and oh, the fabrics, silk and wool and blended and leather and oh, the colors, solid and print and gausy, and lined and unlined and............... well you get the idea! How many!??? How much closet space do you have or can borrow or steal or rent!???

Shop on ladies - remember, when the going gets tough! the tough go shopping!

How many is enough? My answer is...."how much money do you have?". Its that simple

Strange,,, come to think of it, I only got maybe three skirts. I mostly wear jeans, but if I wear something else it's usually a full dress.

I hate to sound like an echo for everyone else around here - but it does seem like there are endless reasons for adding another skirt to your wardrobe. There's the weight to consider with the season in question, the length, the dominant color and of course any secondary colors. Then there's the texture and other details that need to coordinate with your top. The basic style can also be critical. Some days seem to call for something flashy while others ask for something sedate.

It's really quite overwhelming. In drab it seems like everything more-or-less goes with everything else, but en femme there's suddenly a host of subtlety to the art of coordinating clothing. My only challenge is making sure that each new purchase adds to the spectrum I can cover instead of reinforcing an area I've already got well in hand.

I should have guessed the answer

Ok ladies, I've just seen a lovely white gipsy skirt in the latest laRedoute catalogue :) and we visited a Marks and Spencer superstore over the week-end with all the new spring/summer ranges. so I'm just going to have to move the last of the drabs out of my wardrobe and cram them all into one to give Kay a bit more room to expand.
Thanks for all your posts.

Need? Not as many as I own. Want? More, more, more!

It's incredibly difficult to resist a pretty gypsy skirt - I was shopping online this morning for some new tops, ended up also buying a long wine print crinkle skirt, a 34" khaki gypsy skirt and a 34" chocolate gypsy skirt.

Kay, I easily have more skirts than dresses,(20 to 5 and counting) I find it much easier to find skirts and tops to fit in combination than it is to find a single dress which fits me properly. I also have several pairs of slacks and jeans for casual wear and to "blend in" when in public. To answer your question, I would say a girl can never have too many skirts. I intend to keep building my collection until my closet rail sags. Luv and Hugs Jill
