I want one skirt I want one dress --I wan't --I won't-- I get so befuddeled when I shop - I have so little money to give to nee-but she gets the best I can do --Jones of New york - thats the best i can do- I musta been their model - It was made for me LOL..

Hi Needra,

How about giving yourself an allowance each week? You can spend that much (and not a penny more) for women's clothes. Or save it for next week and buy something nicer next week.

I think you're on your way to a VERY full closet, girl!

Yeah, Needra, I love Jones of NY stuff, too. I'm also partial to Farouche dresses and skirts. I try to not buy more than three articles of clothing... a day.

Well girls, Deborah is embarrassed, I went through my closet and packed away my winter stuff - I "sob" sob" "cry" don't got much left = BUT I intend to make up for that this week! My wife says that I have expensive taste and its true. It also limits what I can wear when I go out, so I am "going to bite the bullet" and tone down my velvet mini skirts and slacks and dare I say, get more practical?! I bought six more pair of hose at the Walgreens' sale and have plenty of undies, and several nice silk blouses (very nice) but slacks and (I love my minis) I wll be adding more frilly things for summer - I am really looking forward to several fun shopping trips.

Here is a suggestion for the "champagne dreams, generic soda pop budget" dilemma - thrift stores.

I know that this is not a one size fits all solution (bleached blonde mode ON/ some of those things labelled "one size fits all" are so big that I think they mean that the it fits all of us at the same time

I'm fortunate enough to be in an area with lots of thrift stores around and my loving supportive wife goes shopping there with me once in a while. With the prices there, you can find nice clothing for just a few dollars. Be sure to inspect things carefully for missing buttons, properly working zippers, etc.

Thrift stores are very good.

But do also consider consignment shops. Many (not all) are TG friendly, your money is welcome. You'll find your designer clothes there easier than a thrift shop - it might cost a bit more at times - get on their mailing list and watch for the sales.

Now ladies... you have all overlooked my two most economical places:

Garage sales: Many items under $1.00. If you find a seller who is or was roughly your size, you can buy their entire wardrobe for an hour's wages.

Church rummage sales: Towards the end, many do "Bag sales" where a 20 gallon bag is $2.50 for anything you can put in it. Saturday I got a nice skirt suit, two OK blouses, two OK skirts, a knit winter dress, four brasssiers, a 6-skirt hangar, a man's shirt, and eight pairs of real stockings (that need garters), in one bag for $2.50. Two pair of pantyhose (included) were too small, so they will make great rice boobs.

Just remember, measure from armpit sideseam to armpit sideseam. It must be at least half of your bust size in inches. Any other size variations (waist, hips) are usually easy to alter by sewing machine.

I'm noting the sideseam measurement method. My wife comes with me and she is very good about estimating size.

Our church has an annual rummage sale, and my wife and I help sort, set up, and run the sale. The one last year was the first for Jadeanne and the clothing donated was very little and too small, but I picked up a few necklaces.

Some churches have permanent thrift sales that are open for a few hours during the day and also during church dinners and other events.

The girls here have a good suggestion. If you can treat yourself to one item a week, you'll fill that closet in no time!
