Doctor's visit

Post by Michelle M »

Today I saw my new primary care physician (PCP) in the women's health clinic. She was very nice. She's worked on the Veteran's Affairs (VA) National Transgender Board. She talked with me at length about my experience and where I was in the process. She asked me what I was already taking. I informed her that I am on nothing more than some vitamins. She was thought I looked pretty good as it was sans hormones. She felt I seemed happy and sure of myself. She recommended me to the endocrinologist so I could start hormones. She also is recommending that I be prescribed testosterone blockers immediately as she feels those are relatively safe for me to start, but she'd prefer me to see the specialist before I start estrogen. ..^.. I'm really excited!

Also, I went and registered for the Million Veterans Program. They are trying to gather DNA samples from a million veterans to help build a database for genetic research. The idea is that with enough info, they can help determine genes that influence cancer, disorders, and other attributes. The first nurse gave an odd look when she looked up my info in the computer. I guess she wasn't sure why Phillip came up under my last name and last 4 SSN. I think she was expecting a female name. So we chit chatted about that and other things. Both of the nurses were surprised as well that I hadn't taken any hormones yet. I must remember when I tell my mother about my TG to thank her for my good genes.

Overall, it was a good day at the doctor's office. I am looking forward to starting my transition. ^@^

I can see why the nurses were surprised Michelle, you are very pretty and it is surprising that no hormones are involved. And I'm curious about which vitamins and sans-hormones you take. I've tried a few different things off and on for a while and maybe have seen a slight effect but nothing major. Of course I'm not intending to transition, but I sure wouldn't complain if I could be as pretty as you :)
So good luck on the process, and keep us all posted on how it is going.

I am so glad your visit to your VA doctor went off great. My VA doctor knows I'm trans too. She has a copy of my WPATH letter and knows which hormones I am taking. My GP has both Gay and Trans patients but I am the first Trans patient that she is managing hormones for. I was seeing and Indo but for some reason could not understand that my insurance has a separate Pharmacy policy. So they kept on sending the wrong info and MEDCO kept rejecting the order. So I asked my GP if she would manage my hormones.
