Hi Kimberly--
I realized that part of what I get out of dressing is a more acceptable way to express the intensity of my feelings. People were always somewhat scared of me if I really expressed them, so I learned how to keep a lid on them. But when I dressed as a woman, people were no longer upset by the ways I expressed those same feelings; I could see the difference. It really surprised me--I could not have predicted it at all.
I did not want to hijack your thread, so I wrote more about this on in a new topic posting.
What do you get out of it?

Dressing is what lets me feel like a complete human being, if only for a few hours a few times a month. I'm middle aged, not good-looking, and stuck in a low-paid job. So (needless to say) women don't find me very desirable, and I've missed out on the romantic aspects of life that everyone should be able to enjoy.
I have only one "gift" that helps compensate for what I'll never have: I'm slim and fairly passable, and when I'm out and about in a short skirt and tall boots, I enjoy the occasional approving glance from a man.
Would I prefer to get that kind of attention from women rather than men? Of course! But it's not going to happen, so I'm just making the best of what I have.
