To all--
In replying to Absaroka's lastest post, I somehow deleted it, and my reply went into its slot. This is truly mysterious, and is an example of Moderator powers running amok, like brooms carrying water in Fantasia. It's late, and I have no time to get out my ax and try to do in all the brooms. I also don't know how this happened, so I have PM'ed for help.
Hopefully, this will all be straightened out, and Zari's original post will be restored.

Well I think Anita quoted just about my entire post anyway so you can just read it with commentary, no harm done.
Trains because yes we live about 15 miles from a station on the Northeast Corridor and a lot of the attendees come from the City or Boston. Some people did in fact drive however.
No Firefly. In line with it's space chords it has an ethereal feel that the piano player was having trouble with.
A pixie mute is a kind of short straight mute that a plunger mute will fit over. The whole thing sounds like a modified harmon mute with the stem in.
It was my first time spending the entire weekend at a fall retreat. Years ago they had an alternative gathering in the winter, which led to the first real crisis in my relationship with my (then) girlfriend. Misunderstandings abounded, although the example I gave was about food.
Many of her friends sometimes go in for the stereotypical sarcastic bitchy gay man thing. I've learned that this is different from straight male sarcasm and that when around them I need to avoid both kinds.
It's really kind of mysterious how the post disappeared. Maybe it will reappear in another forum in a galaxy far away.

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover Absaroka's post as it was overwritten by Anita's unknowing 'edit' but, luckily, the majority of it was saved given the way Anita was 'quoting' it in her presumed reply.

Re: upcoming party
I thought I'd resurrect this as my wife recently returned from the annual fall retreat. Since it was not at our house this year I was not invited. (it was held in Provincetown, Mass)
The events of this years festivities crystallized a lot of things to me when she told me about them however.
I'd like to first reiterate what a wonderful time I had last year. Everyone else seemed to, although a couple folks made comments about you never know what I might do or say, even though I strive to be the soul of decorum at these things. I'd have loved to go this year, but it was okay that I didn't. In fact my youngest daughter and brother both came to town so it was a nice weekend with them.
Anyway bear in mind that everyone looks forward to this event all year. This year, one of the hosts, one of the folks who says I make him uncomfortable, got drunk in the afternoon, passed out, and missed the entire main event. My wife was told that this sort of thing in fact happens often. Bear in mind these are not college kids, but former high school teachers now retired.
There's been talk before of this, along with talk of his partners DUI and subsequent 9 months sobriety a few years ago. So I asked my wife, is this finally enough elephant feces on the floor to concede the possibility of an elephant? And is it just possible that this is what makes people uncomfortable about me? Is the fear of what I might say the fear that I might accidentally comment on the elephant?
She told me I was probably glad I wasn't there, and I suspect that she's right. My wife drinks very little and has a remarkable ability to let all this just flow over her without noticing too much unless there is a lot of blood on the floor, so it didn't really bother her. Sort of how in typical fag hag fashion, when all the men would climb naked into the hot tub she'd take a nap and think they were perhaps bathing.

Are you saying they weren't?! Goodness gracious...Sort of how in typical fag hag fashion, when all the men would climb naked into the hot tub she'd take a nap and think they were perhaps bathing.
I feel sorry for the host--that kind of drinking is no fun at all. I abused alcohol like all-get-out in my 20s and 30s, but I never got to the pass-out stages, and never got a DUI--though why not is beyond me.
I think your wife was right--you probably had a much better time staying home with younger daughter and brother.
