Thank you ladies for all the thoughts and great words. Yes I am glad it went so smooth.

I spent more nervous time in front of mom "thinking" how to start the conversation. But then I just started with "I have something to tell you mom". Then it all came out and went just fine. Long story short, she quickly adjusted to the thought of me dressed en-femme. (that was a little shock at first)

I did tell my mom the evening before my birthday, since I thought that was the best time at the moment. Right before bed time she told me you will always be my son. The next morning when we woke up, on my birthday, she told me you will always be my child.

After I bought my first dress in a Dutch fashion store, a few days later, she really wanted to see me wear it, so I did, but without any heels, stockings, accessories, make-up etc. She just wanted to see the dress. :)

I still have to show my self with make-up and wig and full outfit, but perhaps later this week if she is up to it.

Mom asked me to write an open letter to the family, really to her sisters, and that is what we both are working on.

Also worth noting is that my mom lives in a nursing home, she has her own 2 room apartment (I live here for two weeks sleeping on a storage bed), and she would like this to be "hidden" from her nurses at this time, so I am still in drab on the outside, but on the inside I am 100% me. Of course I respect mom, her feelings and her wishes.

Oh, and she was not really surprised about me. Only thing is she did not know what transgender is, she only knows transvestite. So even mom's don't need labels. :)

Well, glad to have you girls to share this with.

Greetings from the Netherlands. this girl will be back in VA next week (19th may)

Gotta love a good Mommy :)

When I came out to mine, she had no idea, but quickly stepped up to the idea. All she ever worried about was the crazies that might want to hurt me.

That's great to hear Erin. I know you had a little apprehension on how things were going to go, but everything is turning out okay. I love a happy ending, and I'm looking forward to the next update.

It is always just so amazing when we come out with some trepidation only to find acceptance beyond anything we could imagine. Congratulations, now your mom can get to know you as a daughter...too.

Mom is very accepting and no longer confuses in names and pronouns. =D>

She even helped, and paid, for the Dutch part of getting the required therapy and documentation to replace my birth certificate. Thank goodness to Skype so I didn't had to fly back home for therapy.

She is not in great medical health, just went trough a few eye surgeries and other things are showing up, but she is 83 and diabetic. I love her of course and we talk twice or three times a week.
