INTIMIDATE implies inducing fear or a sense of inferiority into another.

After reading a post in the SO section where some of them expressed concern that some of us may feel intimidated, it caused me to put some thought into how that effects us as a hole?

As Gender gifted people are we not all intimidated by the standards society attempts to place on us? Is that not why many of us choose to remain in the closet? Is that not really our biggest enemy? Is that not perhaps a reality that will never disappear, or is that something we need to over come?

What do you all think about this?

I do think that fulltime transwomen are sometimes intimidated by family, when they are trying to make the shift. You know, "Don't show up for Christmas like THAT!"

For CDs, though, I think we sometimes intimidate others when we show up somewhere, because they don't know what to do with us. We don't fit into a neat slot that they know how to handle.

As far as what keeps us in the closet--I think it's more our own fears. People don't know we exist if we're in the closet, so they can't threaten us in there. And when we first come out, people's first reactions are usually shocked ones.

But the best defense against intimidation is to be part of a support group that goes out as a group.
