Small talk at the Nail Salon

I had a appointment to get my nails done next weekend but my wife informed me it was Easter weekend and we are expected to spend the weekend with my sister in Houston. So I drive to my nail salon yesterday when they opened at 9:00 AM, to see if Kathy can get me in to do my nails. She said she had an opening at 10:30 AM, so I came back then. While getting my nails done, i struck up a conversation with the customer next to me. it turns out she too has a family get together Easter weekend and was there like I was getting her nails done. I mentioned that my spouse had reminded me the night before and I had totally forgot about Easter. She mention that I had a wonderful Husband that was looking out for me. I thanked her but told her I don't have a husband. she looked at me confused until the light bulb click on and she then said, "Forgive me, I don't meet Gay people very much and by the way, I have no problem with people being Gay." I smiled and said," I too don't have any problem with people being Gay, but I'm not Gay." She did not say anything but I could sense she was confused about what I said, but did asked how long we had been together. I told her that my wife and I have been happy married for almost thirty years. I guess this really confused her, so I clarified my statement by informing her that I was Transitioning from Male to Female. After the initial shock wore off, it was like I had opened a floodgate. "You used to be a Male?.....I had no idea......You look fantastic....How long have you been this way.....Is your wife OK with this...." and etc. She didn't seem offended or anything, so I took the opportunity to do some outreach with her. By the time we were bought done, hopefully she had a better understanding who and what TG people are. She wanted to keep in touch, so we exchanged email address before we left. Changing the world one person at a time.

Hugs,

JoAnn

UPDATE.........She emailed me and wanted to know if I would like to meet her for lunch this Saturday. I emailed her back saying I could not because spouse and I have to go to Houston for Easter but I would love to have lunch the following Saturday and made a suggestion to where we could meet. She emailed back and said that the next Saturday was fine she had not been to that restaurant before, so is looking forward to eating there.
