Told My Mother

I am soo happy right now. I just came back from a party with my mother and before we decide to get home I tell her to pull over to the side of the road. I looked at her and asked her to never repeat what I had to say to my father and her bff. She agreed and I told her that I am a cross dresser and that I have been doing it since I was a child. I told her of the heels I've bought, the wigs, lingerie and she said she loved me and wouldn't care what I did. Of course there was the many questions of are you gay? how long have you been doing it? when did you start buying your clothes? and I answered them 100% to the truth. No I am not gay, ever since I was a child ( her response I always knew something was up with you when you would dress up in my nylons and heels), when I got my drivers license. She is the greatest woman I will ever know in my life. I think I mustered up the courage to tell her because I am still sort of tipsy from the party. Oh and she said something that makes me sort of wonder if its true but, she said she might think its genetic since my father would always make her dress in heels and hose and she thought that she was just being what he wanted to be. Anyways my mother is the best thing in my life and I could not be happier good night ladies.

p.s. sorry if my sentences do not make sense or anything still tipsy

Congratulations, Chelsea!

Sharing your secret with anyone is an incredibly freeing act. Just remember that no one is going to react in quite as wonderful and accepting way as your very fine mother did.

There is a tendency to feel that now that you've opened up to one person you can safely open up to many more. Please wait a bit and examine how your somewhat eased fears about exposure now match up to the public's perception and acceptance of cross dressing. As many people have said, CDs are not only misunderstood, but they have no natural allies in the gender/presentation-variance crowd. So unless you're prepared to be an "example of one" or a political figure, go cautiously. There is only one Executive Transvestite.

Again, congratulations!

I'm glad you could do that, Chelsea. Even one person who knows helps ease the burden of keeping this undercover. My experience of it was that it takes active energy to keep this secret--it's not a passive thing, especially if one if older than 35 or 40.

Congrats Chelsea! Nothing like a little liquid courage to open the doors :)

Glad Mom was good with it. Now pace yourself with Mom, she's got to get used to it like anyone else.

Congratulations, Chelsea! This is a milestone. But I think Davita is right. Let your Mom bring it up on her own now, when she's ready to talk about it.
