Afraid to go out in public
Until recently I was always worried about going out in public dressed. Once I started looking at how most women dressed(non professional) I realized I had nothing to worry about. If you aren't wearing something flashy or over the top most folks will look right past you. A tutu would not be a good idea!
At 72 with no make up, cargo shorts, pull over w/tat showing and hair in a pony tail not an eyebrow raised even when checking out with a male cashier and another male s/a beside him. Smile at folks it works. You don't even have to talk to folks when checking out in most cases. A nod works pretty well. Just appear confident. If someone clocks you tell them you are transitioning and have to dress that way.
I would stay away from biker and redneck bars

Re: Afraid to go out in public
Hi.
from what i hear its a lot different over your way.im a wee bit wised up concerning the States though only know what i get told or maybe read.
I can only talk about here New Zealand and Austraila and Thailand,
i dont go to bars or Hotels = Pub's as we call them ,as a rule, i have worked in them,
Though the one i was at in Brisbane the people there were okay to me and one gay sided up to me and we talked and i just told him what i'v told every one else im a female who's a bit different, no drama's ,got on quite well as it was. my friend took me as he / she was doing a karioke sing song . in fact i can sing and by myself and prefer with others , plus in 3 Bands two are Brass so i get seen a lot and in the public and if you like im on stage, just done our Anzac week end in front of over 300 people
In the main i get on quite well with people , to me its your attitude to others how you interact ,
I find because im different and im not trying to be other than who i am things are pretty good,
Afraid to be out in public , a bit late now of cause im in uniform as well .
I know your talking about being dressed. plus this over the top. he he.... oh dear. flashy, yeap,
as we'd say dressed to... be.... seen, maybe not quite the way for most. we do and thats a part of our life with in our groups no hiding for sure

Congratulations Wendae. I wish I had the confidence and courage to go out. Maybe one day in the future it will happen.

Wendae,
With so many posts and a nice looking avatar photo, I had thought you had been out in public before. It is easier when past middle age, women tend to look more masculine and visa versa. So, congratulations on a milestone passed. I understand how important it is to be out there, with no bad responses. Remember to smile!

Re: Afraid to go out in public
It's been a gradual thing for me over the years. I set goals for myself and have almost completed thje list. Coming out to family and neighbors is still on the list.
Thanks for the compliment Eileen!
