Are there other aspects of your life that at double sided?

Post by Mikaela »

Perhaps not the best ternimology, but do you feel double sided in other aspects of your life? In other words, do you enjoy things that are stereotypically "male" and "female"? For instance, I love working on cars, yet I can play piano. I cook, but I can also swing a hammer. I enjoy the dirty messy "male" things in life, yet I can spend all weekend in a French maid outfit and heels cleaning the house. Just wondering if our duality seeps into other segments of our lives. I know many of us try to shatter the gender stereotypes overall, but I think ya'll understand what I am asking c.

Totally me! Truly "Bi-" when it comes to living life. Totally straight when it comes to my relationship.

That's the problem with stereotypes. They aren't true.

I know a number of women that love working on and racing cars; a number of men that play the piano; lots of men are chefs or just household cooks (like my granddad); my wife can swing a hammer and has helped me build our deck, our shed and a room inn the basement.

I no longer enjoy the messy things, like fixing cars, but I still do it. I'm a pretty good cook as well. Cleaning up like a maid, is not in my wheelhouse, although I do have the uniform. O:)

Donna I agree. Stereotypes are often flawed. Yet in society, there is a general understanding of "guy" things and "girl" things. Most people (not all) fall into one group or another more or less. Truly enlightened people have no problem crossing those borders. I guess I'm just curious if the CD community is more likely (and comfortable) to straddle that line than the rest of society.

Hi,

Depends on the person really and its not wether your male or female or ....ya ya what ever ,....

I,ll turn my hand to most things and never saw a male or female it had no meaning to me and really even now its not , i see a person dont care how they are dressed or look like long hair short or oops ant got none so does it matter , nope.

before i went to high school 1960 age 13 1/2 i built a car shed some 20 x 12 foot timber and corr iron did the plan and all and council passed as complete and signed off
, then did other things as well and did washing by hand the hot copper and had to do the fire and keep it going wring it out and hang it out to dry , womens work you say well yes , so , did sewing and made things for Mom and im still doing much the same i just dont see womens work or mens work as many men would tell me when i talk with them , when i asked a male on our job out in public oh would you mind sweeping the walk way ready for painting ...he ..said no way thats a womans job and sure no in full view of others out side ,

I thought ,,,you gota be joking what the ....

So i did it so does the male job verse the womens job still hang around , well i found out yes ,

So i think you,ll get the idear in my case that i,ll just do what ever is needed to be done and how i dress is of little concern ,

and just for a laugh , what do you think ...I...should wear .....when working out in public.

Very stereotypical.... I work on cars and I cook. My wife cleans and does the yard work. We have some bee hives and we wrk them together.
Don't worry about what other people think, because they don't.

Of course! I am a male, no matter what I could be infused full of feminine hormones, have silicone packs placed inside my breasts, have my male sexual organs all re arranged and re purposed so that I could probably achieve an orgasm and enjoy sex like a woman...But genetically I am and always will be a man. My brain is wired and works or...processes problems as men's brains do. My interests are almost completely masculine. I am heterosexual. But while my gender is on balance masculine the rest is feminine and it has impacted who I am and have been my entire life. Internally I have always been torn because I am gender fluid and spend days on the masculine side...then find myself needing to dress, strongly identifying with women as my gender flows over to the feminine side. My personality is fixed...I am who I am and have been everyday of my life. But I think the effect of this blended alloy that is my gender is that I am not an overbearing aggressive male while at the same time I care and feel and am sensitive and emotional and want to get along preferring that much much more than confrontation. I love the beauty of nature, pretty clothing of course, yet my interests remain largely masculine but I do not like watching most sports...football is an exception but I am not rabidly interested, it is entertaining. I do not hunt but I do have, like and find weapons a fascination for me. I do not like fishing and all the smells and handling all the slimy blood and guts - but I do like seafood! I am kind of interested in automobiles enough to ensure they are running but I am no auto mechanic though I have done things that are more advanced...replaced a thermostat, and the regulator and hoses for the heater...things like that. I am an RN and spent 20 years in Military Nursing in a truly feminine profession with many female bosses. What I found out is women are very good balancing multiple different problems at once while men prefer to focus on one at a time so I could not wait to move down into the Ambulatory clinics where I spent the bulk of my career. Sometimes I envied and fantasized about being able to wear what the women were wearing but I wanted to have a career and earn my retirement which is what I did. So I believe our gender mix varies, we are all different. If most of my gender were feminine I would probably find I needed to transition but most of mine is masculine on balance so growing my hair and having my ears pierced and staying very slim are probably the physical limits which are reasonable for myself.

Noleena...just like you I was not raised to see that some tasks are women's work and some tasks are men's work. I can remember vacuuming, dusting, helping with the dishes and sometimes in the kitchen. With my wife down for the count but even through our marriage I did household tasks all the time without any reservation what so ever like you I would have thought...Wa?...What!?...what are you crazy? watch out, get out of the way while I sweep the area clean stupid!
I can remember some women the older women observing and not liking it or thinking I must be a bit of a sissy for doing some things...my mother in law screeched at me that I would not serve her! Or she would not be served by me. So that traditional social enforcement exists even in women! I was just raised this way there were no barriers, of course the heavier jobs just make sense because men tend to be larger and much stronger to do things like shoveling dirt and much of the yard work except for the gardening. But many women will mow the yard when they have to.

Hmm let's see shall we. I like 'manly' things like Bushcraft, I can throw a tomahawk with deadly accuracy, I can hit a target 30' away with a rock from a Shepherds Sling 9 times out of 10, Not my favourite thing but I can kill and field dress a rabbit if need be, never truly hunted anything, I'm not keen on fishing, I used to love working on my car until it got so bad you needed to work for NASA just to life the hood I love woodworking and woodcarving. Conversely I love cooking I do 90% of it and doing the dishes in my Marigolds of course, I have turned out many a cross-stitch in my time, I find chasing the vacuum cleaner round the house to be relaxing same thing for dusting. The only thing I don't do is the laundry because even after 15 years of marriage I still can't figure out my wife's colour coding of her panties. Certain colours can't be stacked next to or on top of each other in the drawer.
One wears a mask for so long you forget who you are beneath it......I've now removed my mask.
