First step out

I need to share my experience, and this forum it the one spot I can find sympathetic ears, no matter how bored they might be with other similar experiences.
In a word, I made my first small step to going "out". I drove, fully dressed with wig, makeup, the works, the 15 minutes from my house for dinner at my SO's place. True, it was from garage to garage, but in heavy traffic. I felt curious eyes staring at me, but I know that no one really cared a damn. Without a close look, I am sure I would have passed anyway. However, it was a fantastic thrill. I can't explain why. Just as I can't explain why I crossdress, and have been as far back as I can remember.
She is a dear, and the love of my life. After going together for almost two years, I finally revealed my crossdressing. She took it almost casually, and has been incredibly supportive. My first attempts at eye makeup were messy last night, and she has offered to tutor me. Mascara is impossible, since I have very short lashes, and eyeliner requires a steady hand. I wonder about false eye lashes?
Now that I have made my first step out, after many, many years in the closet, what is next. I have been reading the entries on this board, and I am encouraged by what I have seen. I am truly fortunate with my SO, with finding this aggregation of friendly souls, and with my crossdressing.
Thanks to all here, and thanks for letting me let my hair (wig) down.

Willy,
Congratulations on your "trip." I guess you did notice the other drivers - theyu either have a cell phone implanted in their ear or thye have a look of a comotose vegetable. You could have three heads and I doubt if 99% of our fellow travelers would even venture a glance let alone a stare! The exception is if you look like a true beauty queen you may get a second glance, mos of us don't fit that description.
My first venture out was to an afternoon movie matinee! I parked at the opposite end of the lot so I could "practice my walking. The theaters usually are not crowded and you can "whisper" throught the glass for your ticket. The theaters usually are not crowded in the afternoon so you can practice your "moves" walking down the aisle, sitting, crossing and uncrossing your legs, etc. Two things - one, keep your hands away from your face! and two, if confronted by anyone- just smile!!!
Keep us posted!
Love,
Virginia

Willy,
Your first experience “out” was very much like what so many others have done. Within your own vehicle you have somewhat of a ‘privacy’ and therefore security, and yet at the same time you’re out in public. And as Virginia said, you were probably not given a second glance as to there being something “different” about you when you were out and about. I can speak from experience when I say that it SEEMS as though everyone you might see is looking at you, but it’s simply not the case. Folks are usually too concerned with their own itinerary to closely observe those around them. Yes, it’s an unexplainable thrill to get out enfemme, but one well worth experiencing.
So you’re questioning what’s next? My guess would be that your next ‘initiation’ would be going to a public place enfemme – possibly with your S.O. along for support and guidance.

Hi Willy,
Getting out for the first time stories and beginnings stories won't ever bother this TG'd soul.
I'd like to add to the already incredibly worded congrats.
The first time I went out, I was with my ex-girlfriend and we were in traffic and this lady wouldn't let us in. So I kind of shot her a "please let us in look" because she was being rude and normally that gets me in, but it didn't work this time. So I was like?

Then I remembered I'm not a guy looking at a gal, I'm a gal looking at a gal. Lesson learned.
I'm happy for you and your SO. You sound like you're taking things slowly and that's a good thing.
Please keep us up to date with what you're doing. One more thing before I end this post. I commend you for reading various posts in the forum.

There is so much to learn from, even if it is from a year ago.
Thanks for sharing your first time out story with us!!!!

Willy ,, Congratulatons!!!!!!! Isn't it just a kick, Did you drive differently, more fem, less aggesive? Your next step , for me I just got out like you in late june, been doing it alot until I felt like no one was looking at me. Then I would go to a drive thru fast food place. And go to a pop vending machine to get out of the car, park so I have to walk to the machine and then ofcourse , get money out of my purse, then bend down with my knees, then carry the can high cradled in my hand , about shoulder hieght (very fem). Then to a store for anything that you want or don't want. Buying gas with a credit card on the pump is good practice too, for the way you carry yurself and getting in and out of the car.........Keep smilin, keep dressin and keep postin..............Kristen

You are right - it's a great rush. It must be the feeling that here you are in a situation where you can't just run into another room and change clothes. You are dressed as a woman, and have to act and feel the part. Wonderful !
Your responses are great. I haven't felt like this since I first went on the air as a licensed ham radio operator, and started rag-chewing. I suddely feel like I am part of a hospitable, friendly brotherhood _oops, sisterhood. You made me feel ready to proceed to greater feats - like gassing up the car ! I wonder if I'll be able to hold out to complete a fillup? One small step at a time.
I am not an aggressive driver normally, but this time I drove with extra care. The last thing I wanted was to get into a fender-bender, or try to explain myself to a cop. I am sure that I would not pass at any distance less than 10 yards, and even so the best I could do would be to look like an old hag.
Wind is beginning to howl out there. Storm Frances will be affecting our area, although I am not expecting anything serious right here.
Thanks again for your hospitality..
Willy

Willy,
A word of advice when you stop at a gas station. IF you're wearing glue on nails be really careful when you pull your credit card out of the slot in the gas pump. Long nails prevent you from getting a good grip on the small edge of the card that you have to grip to pull it out of the slot and some of those pumps hold it tighter that others. It's really easy to have a nail pop off when you're trying to get the darn card back out so be aware of that when you go in to 'fill 'er up'.
