Crossderssers protected by California's new Hate Crimes Law

Hi girls,
I don't know how I missed this, but Gov Arnie signed a bill protecting "girlie men" from threats, intimidation and violence by signing into law California's new Hate Crimes Law which includes transgendered people. And requires any employer with more than 5 employees to enforce the law in the workplace. Essentially protecting crossdressers from being fired or intimidated at work.
This is huge. I feel just wonderful, I have been worrying so much about how I would reenter the workforce, should my health improve enough to do so, now I can and not fear being fired or intimidated.
Here are some links of interest concerning it. Many Christian organizations are very upset because the law would prohibit much of what pastors can say about Gay, Lesbian, or Transgendered persons.

I am not certain if other states include Transgendered in thier hate crimes laws, but I am glad to see California on top of this, and while it is not a blanket protection in the workplace, it gets to the root of the problem. And while California does not specifically list gender identity as discrimination in it's labor discrimination laws, the courts have held that discrimination on basis of percieved gender is still discrimination based on gender, which is prohibiited. So this adds another layer of protection for us transgendered people.
We are slowly gaining rights, and if things go as they usually do, California typically leads the way, and the rest of the country soon follows. Although I don't know that California is leading, because I am not certain of other states hate crimes laws.
Love always,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth ,
Transgendered are now allowed to join the police force in Australia , however they may not be warmly welcomed by the other police members .
This caused much controversy on talk-back radio some time back, if I remember rightly there was an issue with TG-cops performing strip searches.

I AM glad to hear this!
I'm also happy to say Arnold has not lived up to the dire predictions so many of us made in regards to his ability to govern this state. I was so afraid we would need to go through another recall.
This may be in response to a very high profile case of the murder of a pretty young crossdresser here. I don't really know many details but a group of young machos apparently went off the deep end when they realized she was a genetic male and murdered her in a "rage of passion". I suspect it would have been a case of gang rape if she really were a genetic female. There have been several trials (at least two, maybe more), all ending in hung juries I think.

they've always have had that in SF, but that's cool throughout the whole state...
some people will never change, even though they won't descriminate to your face because they aren't allowed, they'll still point and whisper behind your back...
i worked at the Best Buy in San Francisco this past summer, and i would remember when a TG person would walk by and one of my coworkers would come by and be like "DID YOU SEE THEM, OH MY GOD, THATS DISGUSTING" or something like that, and i'd tell them off to the ground...this would also happen sometimes when a homosexual walked in...its like racism...worse.
why can't people just let others live how they want to...when people say stuff like that to me about someone else, it makes me feel horrible, and i get on the offense, i used to just stand there and make an empty laugh, but not anymore, i'll be like disgusting?? to you, you mean, i can think of a 1000 disgusting things you do, which is probably why you are unhappy and don't have a girlfriend...that person, she's happy, living her life how she wants, with no worries, and doesn't even care when you point at her....get a clue...
hmph...venting...i feel better.
Arnold ALSO annulled all the gay marriages that happened in San Francisco which the old mayor performed...so don't get too happy on him.

Well I am happy for all of you down there south of the boarder. I hope this gives you what you have been searching for.
Several years ago I worked at a place where on this one particular job if you were of a certain race of people you could not get that job. Even though there were laws against that.
The reason I know this is because I applied and got the job inspite of the fact that another had applied with more seniority than I who should of got the job.
I was even told exactly what had been done to prevent him from getting the job. It had been done in a way that he made the decision not to accept the job. And there was nothing he could do about it.
I am not wanting to put a damper on your enthusiasm, Just wanting you to proceed with your eyes open.

Hi there,
He had to do that as the Govenor. What was allowed locally broke California state laws.

If it had been legal he probably would have stayed out of it. Hopefully those laws will be changed and gays can live their lives as legal partners and receive the benefits married couples do.
I'm still incredibly happy for the rights of the TG'd folks in CA.

Which is the point of the thread. There is another thread for Gay Marriages if you do a search.

I have a question. Does any onme know where I can find out where my state stand on the transgender issue. Or where you can find out about such laws on the internet. I would really like to know that my rights are protected and if not why not.

Hi girls,
I don't kid myself about Gov Arnie, he is just pandering. In CA acceptance in and of itself has become politically correct. To not accept the GLBT community could cost him a lot more than just thier votes. He could be seen as a "hate monger" and leave him with only a conservative base of voters, which is not enough to get reelected.
If he were to not sign such a bill, he would not only lose the votes of the GLBT community, which I doubt very few voted for him anyway, but also thier parents, brothers, sisters, friends, and most importantly anyone who hates bigotry in general. That is a lot of people. And the justification for not signing such a bill, is rather weak and lame.
As far as the gay marriages, it was the California Supreme Court that ruled them invalid, his signing was merely a formality, which may have been required under law. He is still no friend of mine, but at least he is not pandering to the far right which was my initial fear.
Love always,
Elizabeth
