NTCE vs NTAC -- anybody know whats the difference?

Post by Alexandra »

NTCE vs NTAC -- anybody know whats the difference between these two TG advocacy organizations? They seem to overlap each other, and both having an office in DC. NTCE was formed in 2003 . . . I wonder if there was a falling out at NTAC which resulted in the creation of NTCE.

NTAC, by the way, was created after a meltdown within the GenderPac organization in the 90's.

Anyway, google failed to provide this snoop info I'm curious about.

Anybody?

Recent news at GPAC:

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence. SRLP is a collective organization founded on the understanding that gender self-determination is inextricably intertwined with racial, social and economic justice. Therefore, we seek to increase the political voice and visibility of low-income people of color who are transgender, intersex, or gender non-conforming. SRLP works to improve access to respectful and affirming social, health, and legal services for our communities.

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition (GenderPAC) is the national advocacy organization working to end discrimination and violence caused by gender stereotypes.

The National Transgender Advocacy Coalition works proactively to reform societal attitudes and the law to achieve equal rights for the transgendered and other gender diverse individuals.

Believing in the worth and dignity of all human beings, they also participate in the struggles of other wrongly oppressed minorities on the issues we share.

The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) is a social justice organization dedicated to advancing the equality of transgender people through advocacy, collaboration and empowerment.

Hi Donna,

Yep, I've been at both sites and plenty of other along the way to find out why NCTE was created when NTAC already exists. No huge difference between the two organzation is apparent. Nor has there been any information been found that answers the question of why another national organization was need. I've some questions out, but no answers so far. Somethings up I think and I'd like to know what it is.
