Me and my shadow

Hi girls,

I stole the shadow idea from another post, but unfortunately I can not remember which one. So if you are the one I am plagurizing, I thank you, and beg your forgiveness. However, I liked the idea so much I decided to write a thread about it. Again, unfortunately that was a few days ago, and memory is not what it used to be.

It made me think about about a picture my daughter took of her shadow. She took the picture because her shadow freaked her out when she seen it, because she had not noticed her shadow for a while. So when I read the post about the shadow it made me think that I have not noticed my shadow in a while, in fact I did not remember having seen my shadow in a dress. Or with long earrings.

And what I found was that my shadow was indeed unusual to me. Pleasantly unusual. In fact I love my shadow now. But my shadow is just a paradigm for my life as a whole. Pleasantly unusual and still unfamiliar.

So it is me and my shadow. And I feel an inner peace I have never felt before. Several people have told me lately, including two of my children, that they have never seen me more happy. I am indeed happy, and if I don't look too closely at the details, just like my shadow, I see the person I always wanted to be. And that is something to celebrate.

Love always,
Elizabeth

Well then come on honey, indeed, dress up in your finest, strum us a little tune, and lets have a party. *-* ||oo|| |O|O|O|

Congrats to you and your shadow. :)

A hidden bonus for me is I was talking with Love this morning and she had a song start in my head but now you've changed the tune to "Me and My Shadow" :)

That's great to hear Elizabeth. I reckon there is more than self acceptance, and that is being happy with one's self.

Only the Shadow knows the way of the night and future. O so be the past in the world of shadow. Allow the night not swallow the shadow and eat of the world within. For only the shadow shall know of thee. Gee

The Shadow was a popular CBS radio show back in the 30's and 40's. The shadow, James La Curto, was the narrator of the show based on Detective stories.

If my fading memory serves me right, the Shadow character on the old radio show was played by Orson Welles.

Orson did play the character in 1937 and left in 1938.

Frank Readick and James LaCurto played the character until Wells took the part.

The show moved from CBS to NBC.

Wells was replaced by Bill Johnstone in 1938 and then Bret Morrison for 1943 and Bill Johnstone again from 1945 through the last show in 1954. John Archer and Steve Courtleigh played The Shadow for a brief time in 1945.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in

My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again...

I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through.

Thanks for sharing this! Your description is strikingly similar to what Jung called the Shadow--an basic part of each person's psyche. Understanding and accepting ones Shadow is a major milestone in personal growth.

These links give excellent, short explanations of the Shadow, well worth reading:

- The Shadow
- The Shadow and Individuation
- Wikipedia - Shadow (psychology)

The Shadow is different than a man's female part, the anima. But I think with crossdressers there tends to be a connection.
