Left-handedness

There are two kinds of left-handedness. With one, a person's brain is completely reversed, so that their language center is in the right hemisphere rather than the left. In this case a person is often fully left handed.

With the second kind, a person has a conventional brain--language center on the left--but prefers the left hand because their personality is mainly governed by their non-linguistic brain. Such people, for example, are more often artists and musicians. A sign of this is mixed-handedness--right-handed in some things and left-handed in others. Another sign is absence of completely left-handed relatives.

It's natural to wonder if many CDs and TGs may have the second condition. It would make sense. Historically there are many associations to "left" being female and "right" being male. Women use their non-linguistic brain hemisphere more than men. There is some evidence that TS's are disproportionately left-handed. The part of our brain that connects the two hemispheres also may figure into this.

How many people here are left-handed, fully or partly. Here are some good indicators:
  • 1. Which hand do you write with?
    2. Which hand do you throw a ball with?
    3. Which hand do you bat (or play tennis) with?
    4. Which eye would you prefer to look through a microsope with?

Left off! I mean...right on! Let's get to the bottom of this.

I'm a lefty, in all political & mechanical skills.

Right handed.
When I was young (in days of yore) it was common for teachers and parents to attempt to convert lefties to righthandness. A few went so far as to strap the left hand and arm to the body of the child for a time to make them use the right hand. Two that I grew up with did learn to use the right hand for most things, but still prefer the left. Both also grew up with stuttering problems that have been attributed, correctly or not, to the suppression of their own natures. It has been a useful analogy for me in talking, in general, to some folks about being TS or CD. They seem to understand the concept of it being inborn better if you use it, though it still will not overcome strong feelings against it. Quite a few people of my acquaintance have been lefties (all the teachers of one entire psychology department among them!) and these latter folks attributed much of their curiosity about the development of the human mind to that fact.

Just a few thoughts. Love, Carolynn

Writing- left handed ( but can use right hand )
cutting Knife or saw- left handed
using a bat (sport )- right handed
kicking football- right footed and hand passing- right handed

Yes I'm definatly a multimix , I always enjoy showing off by writing with my left hand and then changing to my right hand to continue writing.

Well I'm

1. right handed writer
2. right-handed thrower
3. right-handed batter
4. riight-eyed
5. riight thumbed

also I'm a musician but left-handed (I play the french horn)

Along the same subject, in fourth grade (about 10 yo) I broke my right wrist and needed to write for several months with my left hand. Now I wonder if this had any effect on my CD-ing

I am totally right handed! I am an artistic person, can not do math to save my life and my verbal language skills are horrible. Also have a slight stutter, but pretty sure I have always been right handed and no teacher tied my left arm to my side. My father was left handed, does that mean anything?
I am so righ handed that I can not wipe my you know what with my left hand. My wife says the day I can not do that is the day I go into the home. Guess I better start learning how to use my left hand!

I guess, the previous posts here suggest, that being left-handed is not significant for CD/TG.

Anyway - I am mostly "left".
I just write with my right hand, because my Grandpa insisted on it. But even when I draw/paint I use my left hand and I mix up knife and fork when preparing the table. Also foot, eye etc.

I guess its just a coincidence by chance.

Hugs, Jabbela
