How about this!!!

Post by Virginia »

My daughter called me this morning. She and several of her friends had heard of a "Drag Bar" in Richmond, Va. called "Godfreys'" and it was and is THE place to go. Reservations are evidently hard to come by. I know the matri tr de (whatever) but could not get up with her. Anyway they finally got to go after about a month and a half of trying to get reservations. She said it was an absolute blast. The entainers were great, the drinks were great, the food was excellent!!! They just had a great time and everyone was just super!!!
She, my daughter, like most gg's has (and I could sense it some even over the phone) a little, little? hell, a big problem trying to get their minds around us, but damn if she isn't most of the way!!! She has not seen me dressed and did not intimate that she wanted to, but I told her we have great genes in our family and her dad looks good when he goes out.. I could sense the wheels turning in her head, but she said I'll just bet you do turn some heads. Then she dropped the bomb - She thinks I should look into starting up somewhat the same type of restaruant, club, whatever, here!!!! She said it is amazing how well the place is doing and when it is that hard to get into, I mean up to three or four weeks to get reservations, they must be doing something right.
Did I raise a great kid or what!!!!??
Don't ask, I don't know how or if I will pursue her suggestion, but she has a few connections and so do I so once this divorce thing is put to bed and Brandi and I are back from Florida and my trianing partner and her SO and I (to give away the "bride") are back from Vermont and I can hopefully get our support group back on track!!! We will see!!!
Any suggestions??
Love you all,
Virginia

You do have a great daughter there Virginia. =D> =D> =D> =D>

As for suggestions, homework. Talk to the managers of the place in Richmond. They'll probably be helpful, as you are located all the way on the other side of the state. Getting performers would probably be the hardest part. Know your LGBT community, especially the statistics on violence. Generally, drag bars are pretty well received. And it wouldn't have to be 'drag' all the time, as there could be other themes too.

Talk to Julie M. She thought about opening a club in Chicago area! Remember?

You daughter is sure coming along and your patience is so golden! :) =D>

I agree with Donna also about checking with Julie who thought about doing this.

Virginia. Is there anything better than acceptance by family?

Virginia!

I didn't even finish reading your post and had to tell you that my DH and I have been to Godfrey's and it's wonderful! We had the best time. The hostess there is lovely and everyone; staff, entertainers, guests, are all so nice and fun. We had an absolute great time and count that as one of our fondest memories going out dressed. And the food was great! We went a year ago and are still talking about it today. We did not have a reservation and knew we might not get in but since my DH was dressed the lovely lady at the door found us a seat. This was also the first time my DH used the facilities while we've been out. He felt that comfortable. Some GG was having a bachelorette party while we were there and there was a mix of guests. In any event, hubby and I talk all the time about starting a business that caters to CD'rs and probably will in our retirement from what I call our civilian life. We just don't know how to explain to those close to us whom we would want to ask to invest, such as his brother. He doesn't know anything about DH and we're not sure how we would approach the topic with him. Anyhoo, you should check it out!

From richmond.com
Godfrey's: If you're looking for a little entertainment with your brunch, Godfrey's is the place to be on Sunday mornings. The Sunday Brunch and Drag Show. has become a staple for Richmond diners, and the food isn't too bad either. The menu offers eggs benedict with Cuban bread instead of an English muffin and "The French Toast," the traditional version topped with Grand Marnier-soaked bananas. But who cares about food when there are ladies performing? The seats fill up early so get there at 8 a.m. to put your name on the list. No Reservations. Prices range from $6.50 to $9.95. Sunday only 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 308 E Grace Street (804) 648-3957
Just thought everyone would be interested in the place being discussed.

Hugs, Paige
Don't get stressed, just get dressed.

That's what we went for, brunch and the show. It was such fun! And I think it's a marvy idea!
